, I ----'-.4..---- -T--------.- 1942-THE INK SPOT-1947 A Senior Publication In 1942, the first Ink Spot Staff was organized to publish semi-monthly a mimeographed four-page paper to which students in high school could subscribe. The student body subiitted names for the paper, Phyllis Uildermuth's HPort Byron Ink Spotu winning the contest. It has proved to be a name that has so far stood the test of tide and will undoubtedly con- tinue to do so through the years to come. All news vas hand- led in general by those on the Staff and each edition had a new editor. Work was done in the Commercial Department under the supervision of Rue Cooper who sponsored the paper. Orig- inal members of the Ink Spot Staff and those to whom much credit is due for initiating a publication which is of so much interest to the, student body were: Virginia Smith, Norma May, Bill Stebbins, Janice Skelton, Barbara Mathes, La Vera Tyler, Marie Hedeen, Joyce Sallows, Isabelle Boardman, Barbara Rick, Jane Simpson, Phyllis Wildermuth, Norma Anderson, Ebb Dailey, Vary E. Kelly, Lewy Jinks, Evelyn Mose, Annie M. Searl, Dorothy Bachman, John Kelly, and Ira Lilliman. Records for l943 and l944 are not available, but during l945 and 46 there were 70 paid subscriptions. The paper changed from semi-monthly to monthly publications and increased in size from four pages to six and often eight. Work was con- tinued in the Commercial Department, sponsored by Catharine Perring, Comnercial instructor, assisted by a very capable Staff, Much of the credit for a very commendable publication was due to Genevieve Steffen, who acted as Editor-in-Chief. Assisting her as spacers, tyoists, stencilers, and duplicators, was a crew of very efficient and conscientious workers: Bar- bara Mathes, Harguerite Lamb, Helen Cooper, Shirley Erickson, Barbara Strnadgard, Virginia Hay, Beverly Pannell, Beverly Dye, Doris Allison, April Beecher, Joyce Baff, Virginia Albert, Janice Skelton, and June Orr. A new page featuring school gossip became popular, monthly editorials were written by faculty members, football, basketball and track resumed added variety, The paper grew in popularity until in 1945-46 it reached the home of every child in school. Copies were sent to Board mem- bers, to former students in service, to the Port Byron Grade School. There were two paid out-of-town subscriptions and two exchange copies sent to other schools. Practically every issue contained eight pages. Much of the success of the pub- lication this year was due to Marilyn Sidlinger who served as Editor-in-Chief. Assisting her was a very efficient Staff composed of Beverly Pannell, Barbara Strandgard, Margaret
