We made a nice showing in football also. Sophomore players were Don Wuehle, Earl Bull, Don Frits, and Bill Frits. Bob Carlson would have been on the team but unfortunately an ac- cident prevented participation. By November, our ranks were reduced to thirty as Doris Car- penter dropped out. Our first social affair was a theatre party at Moline to see HBlack Beautyn, then to the Maidrite stands for refreshments. Bob Carlson, Bill Frits, and Bob Wilson furnished cars and our sponsor, Clyde Hofflund accompanied us. Another withdrawal-Bennett Watkins, leaving only twenty-nine members. Early in December the Sophomore members of the Pep Club gave a skit with scenes showing how we intended to down Tampico in basketball that evening-rather corny, we think, but it drew several laughs, nevertheless. The Sophomore class contributed five players in basketball- Bob Carlson, Don Frits, Roger Lund, Earl Bull, Don Nuehle- so we'll take one-fifth of the credit for the trophies the team brought in. On February 13, we sponsored an all-school Valentine's Party. We decorated the gym appropriately for this day when love and affection is widely distributed-we danced, we ate-the boys made love to the girls-and an all around good time was had by all. To bad some of the basketball boys had to leave early, Coach's orders-as they had a big game coming up. On the 25th we had an ice-skating party at Schafer's. 'Ne roasted hot dogs and had a good time. Our ranks were further depleted-Gloria Brall left to enroll in Cordova, leaving us only twenty-eight. Early in Uarch our boys won second place in the Inter-Class Tournament, On the 2lst we roller-skated at Moline rink. Don Frits, Don Wuehle, and Don Earhart drove. Coach Hoff substituted for our sponsor, Clyde Hofflund. On March 24, the Sophomore girls won over the Senior girls for first olacc in the Inter-Class Basketball Tournament.
