Donald Smith Carol warren Helen De Bottis EDITORIAL Have you ever observed the life cycle of a butterfly? If you have you probably foimd that xt consists of four stages He begins life as an egg growing to prepare him self for the next stage which ts a caterpillar As a caterpillar he moves about rapidly gathering food as an advancement toward his ultimate goal. Then he goes through the last preparatory stage the cocoon where he builds all that stored up food into the finished product a butterfly The growth of a butterfly IS strangely enough very much hke the progress of a person ln the first years of his life a person usually does nothing in particular but grow When he IS old enough to go to school he goes Thus completing his first stage in life. From thebegmnmg of his school days to the end he is like the caterpillar gather ing his food which is the basic fact needed for his advancement toward his ultimate goal--the well educated and wise man Then he graduates into his third stage where he like the cocoon applies his accumulated knowledge to wisdom with experience and years he grows nearer and nearer to the man he hopes to be This illustration which has been used is more or less idealistic That is this per- son with an eye on progress is a person who everyone should be but one who many unfortunately are not like This person is not only enjoying his progress and reaping from the benefits of it but is also doing what his Almighty Maker intended The aim of the members of the faculty of our school is to guide us, the students, to that happy road of advancement. Although we may sometimes seem discouraging to them, we are grateful for their consistent efforts. As a result of their efforts, many are living good lives as wise, open-eyed citizens working for the betterment of our United States. We also are beginning to feel the good results of their work. As we leave these hallowed halls, we will look back on those who helped us in our growth with respect, thankfulness and admiration.
