Donald Smith Carol warren Helen De Bottis EDITORIAL Have you ever observed the life cycle of a butterfly? If you have you probably foimd that xt consists of four stages He begins life as an egg growing to prepare him self for the next stage which ts a caterpillar As a caterpillar he moves about rapidly gathering food as an advancement toward his ultimate goal. Then he goes through the last preparatory stage the cocoon where he builds all that stored up food into the finished product a butterfly The growth of a butterfly IS strangely enough very much hke the progress of a person ln the first years of his life a person usually does nothing in particular but grow When he IS old enough to go to school he goes Thus completing his first stage in life. From thebegmnmg of his school days to the end he is like the caterpillar gather ing his food which is the basic fact needed for his advancement toward his ultimate goal--the well educated and wise man Then he graduates into his third stage where he like the cocoon applies his accumulated knowledge to wisdom with experience and years he grows nearer and nearer to the man he hopes to be This illustration which has been used is more or less idealistic That is this per- son with an eye on progress is a person who everyone should be but one who many unfortunately are not like This person is not only enjoying his progress and reaping from the benefits of it but is also doing what his Almighty Maker intended The aim of the members of the faculty of our school is to guide us, the students, to that happy road of advancement. Although we may sometimes seem discouraging to them, we are grateful for their consistent efforts. As a result of their efforts, many are living good lives as wise, open-eyed citizens working for the betterment of our United States. We also are beginning to feel the good results of their work. As we leave these hallowed halls, we will look back on those who helped us in our growth with respect, thankfulness and admiration. Our Board of Education provides for the benefits and greater interests of our pupilsfthe future leaders of our community, our state, and our nationjg and of our teachers so that they may do their job with zeal and devotion. BELOW: Miss Mary Dalesio, Mrs. Alrene Perkins. Principal ABOVE: Mr. Corey, Mr. Gates, Mr. Waterman, Mrs. Sevier, Mr. Rosecrans, Mr. Burns. The office staff is here for the sole purpose of aiding the class room teachers in their attempt to guide the future re- sponsible citizens. The office workers unselfishly devote their time and pa- tience to take care of the legal business of running the school efficiently. Many students have the opportunity of work- ing under the supervision of the office staff. The bus drivers carry our pupils to and from school each day. By their loyal service and careful performance of duty, our students arrive safely each day ready for the toil of a hard day's work in the progress of developing their minds. Our maintenance men keep our school clean and DSSI as well as warm and comfortable for the pupils. ABOVE: L. Jones, M. Allen, I. Giovanni, G. Filkins. As a faculty, we are interested in the problems of our community and nation. One of these problemsof the mid-twen- tieth century is automobile accidents. ln order to combat these problems our school offers Gaining to our students so that the new generation will be better drivers than those of the past. ABOVE, FIRST ROW: A. Tierson, G. Derby, B. Campanello, A Merritt, R. Alfreds. SECOND ROW: R. Lockwood, I. Kick, R. Carr W. Mapley, E. Abbott, C. Mecomber. In order to keep the pupils' bodies as strong as their minds our school provides a fine cafeteria under the supervision of a dietician. The English class offers our pupils the rudiments of the language along with the best that is known and thought in literature. The chief goal is to provide our community with more enlightened and more literate citizens. l For those students who possess special artistic qualities, our art department offers the best opportunities under the direction of a professional artist, Mrs. Gates. The advantages of these departments are just a few of all the advantages avail- able to make our pupils better and more responsible citizens in the world. In the Homemaking Class our girls learn how to select and to prepare foods. Here they learn how to become better and more efficient homemakers. Through the guidance of Miss Townsend the girls are trained for the responsibil- ities of a good housewife and home- maker.
