Editor s Message hrs natron of ours boasts of the best educational system rn the world Probably this rs so because of the foresrghtedness of many of this countrys great leaders from Thomas efferson down to the present day teacher Educators of our land have realized the tremendous value of thorough and broad schooling The knowledge and sl-trlls acquired rn school lead and guide the rndrvrdual throughout hrs lrfe As a result of the usual number of years rn school tht graduate leaves school vtrth knovu ledge that will enable hrm to take hrs place rn society From the time he entered kindergarten or frrst grade and up untrl the trme he obtained hrs diploma school aided the chrld to develop intellectually physically socially emotionally and sprrrtually It rs the classes and teachers whrch ard the chrld to develop intellectually Fine develop socially The general ups and downs of school all help the chrld to develop emotionally Meeting and overcoming conflicts also ard rn this develop ment As the chrld grows and becomes more mature hrs emotrons become settled and more stable The encouragement to rely on God to attend the Church of hrs choice and to pray all help the chrld to develop sprrrtually Thrs growth and development of the chrld can be lrkened to the growth and development of the various construction robs which are being done rn our community addrtrons to the school burldrng and garage the State Thruway and the plans for the burldrng of a new elementary school The theme chosen for the 1953 Panther rs growth and development Thrs was done rn an effort to rllustrate how school does ard the growing and developrng chrld through the years ust as each step completed rn the burldrng of a home ennances rts beauty and usefulness so each new teacher frrend fact and experience will leave rts mark on the personality growth and development of each chrld who enters and leaves the portals of Port Byron Central School Ummm ' 9 4 1 J . , . . . . y . . 7 I 7 , . . and extensive gym classes, intramurals and competitive teams enable him to - , ' 3 3 7 ' -T i I I l 1 7 l l 1 9 . 3 . Drafting the Plans 019 x?an Mrs Fred Sevier Mr Wilftel Waterman Mr Fred Rosecrans Mr Arthur Gates Mr Tlvsarl Burns Mr Thomas Corey The best workers need materials such as bricks cement and so forth to construct a building As the workers need materials also do students in order to advance in knowledge The Board of Education orders all the materials needed by the students such as books which are the foundation of all learning It hires the teachers who direct the construction of our futures The building of our futures depends on the efficiency of the Board of Education Mr Owen With a background of 10 years experience as high school principal f several years as board member and president Mr Owen has been Superintendent of the Schools of the 7nd Supervisory District of Cayuga County since 1951 In 1936 he assisted in merging 21 of his districts into the Port Byron Central District and planning the present building As superintendent he is responsible for licensing of teachers and lointly with the principal recommends teachers for appointment on probation and tenure He also counsels with the principal and board of education concerning many matters including appointment of bus drivers purchase and routing of school buses and plans for school buildings Mr Charles H Owen 10 S.
