They Also Serye In our book vie have tried to include pictures and copy on school sponsored actnities vyhich aid in the grovy th and development of our children We are aided in this program by the John Cool Post of the American Legion yy ho donate the prize money for our local Oratorical Contest and sponsor the winner of this contest in advanced stages of competitron Our local bank the Port Byron Branch of the Auburn Trust sponsored our Little League Baseball Team to a Cayuga County Championship Parents aided in the administration of this program The Parent Teachers Association in addrtion to the general interest in our school district encourages fur ther grovyth beyond high school by giving cash awards to the outstanding girl and boy graduates in our school each year The Mens Social Club has produced a Home Talent Entertainment each year in which many of our teachers and students participate From the proceeds a cash award is made to the graduate who indi ares the greatest need and the most worthvy hile goal which he hopes to attain Prizes are also given to the grade children for their progress Byron Central School have set up a fund to provide the Edson L Moore Prize which is avy arded each year to the graduate selected as the outstanding person both in scholarship and citizenship This prize is named to honor a former principal of our school A second fund provides the Mary L Warren Prize This prize is awarded to the Valedictorian of each class Thrs prize is named in honor of one of our best loved teachers and citizens in this school and community She was a person yy ho was alvy ays known to inspire the best in each of her students A third prize donated by and named for Vera B Fenn a former teacher and local poet is presented each year to the graduate vyho has shown the greatest improvement in English during the four years spent in our local school We receive excellent cooperation from our local Volunteer Fire Department They aid in our school fire drills and give demonstrations on the practicallty and use of various types of fire extinguishers Cut Baccalaureate Service is held each year IH one of the community churches Our local pastors take part in our Annual Holy Week Programs our Graduation Exercises and Baccalaureate Services Our local merchants and those in the neighboring communities vyho so willingly buy advertising in our yearbook The Panther have earned our appreciation and thanks Without their help we could not possibly provide such a complete and worthwhile account of the year 1952 55 To our subscribers we hope you will receive as much pleasure and information as we have in preparing The Panther for you The Yearbook Staff 112 V Q .
