PIRATES PORT AUSTIN PUBLIC SCHOOLS TOPS IN THE THUMB 8321 N. VAN DYKE RD. PORT AUSTIN, MICHIGAN 48467 AN AMERICAN DREAM... Just as our forefathers had a dream 200 years ago, so we must also look forward. . . dream. The American Dream is one of freedom, independence, equality. In the two centuries of our nation's history, we have striven to reach those goals. As individuals, we must also set goals. Without dreams, we have nothing. The Dream of Today is the Reality of Tomorrow. . . THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM To dream the impossible dream To fight the unbeatable foe To bear with unbearable sorrow To run where the brave dare not go To right the unrightable wrong To love pure and chaste from afar To try when your arms are too weary To reach the unreachable star This is my quest To follow that star No matter how hopeless No matter how far To fight for the right Without question or pause To be willing to march into hell For a heavenly cause And I know If I'll only be true To this glorious quest That my heart Will lie peaceful and calm When I'm laid to my rest And the world Will be better for this That one man Scorned and covered with scars Still strove with his last ounce of courage To reach the unreachable star by Joe Darion 1776- 1976 TABLE OF CONTENTS SENIORS 6 UNDERCLASSMEN 16 STAFF 34 ACTIVITIES 38 COMMUNITY 88 We, the Class of 1976 of Port Austin High School, wish to dedicate this annual to three people who have meant a great deal to us: . . .to John and Mamie Schwedler, we wish to express our gratitude for all of the help and support that you have given us during our high school years ... to Jack Knoblock, we say thank you for your kindness and friendship over the years. 5 6 SENIORS 7 GOOD LUCK TO THC GRADUATING CLASS Valedictorian KATHERINE ANN VOSS Kath Basketball 9,11,12 Volleyball 11,12 Softball 11,12 Statistician 10,11,12 F.H.A. 9,10,11,12 Annual Staff 10 Senior Trip Club 12 Scholarship Award 12 Plays 9, 11 Co-op 12 ROSE MARY HORETSKI Rose Class President 10 Vice President 9, 11, 12 Student Council 10 Yearbook Treasurer 11 Thespian President 12 F.
