ADMIN! IRA T100 The School Board, headed by our compet- ent superintendent of schools, john D. Glann, plans for the education, recreation, and gen- eral welfare of the students in School District Seventeen. The student body and public, well satisfied with the job the board has done, are proud of the great achievements instituted and carried out in our district. VVe truly ap- preciate the efforts that they have put forth to solve our many problems. The results of the school bond election conducted last year by the board show that the people of our district have confidence in our school administration and will back it in its fine endeavors. Due credit must be given to all who have assisted the school board in its work. As a result of the bond election, work will start this fall on a new junior high school and a new junior college. The junior college will be a complete col- lege unit with classrooms, laboratories, stu- dent commons, and oflices for the administra- tion and faculty. The college will open in September, l96l, with an estimated enroll- ment of 130 freshmen students. The junior high school, to be located at 14th and D Streets, will contain eleven class- rooms, a multipurpose room for physical edu- cation, a music building, a cafeteria, a library, and an ollice and auxiliary facilities. lt will serve the students living west of Valley Street who now attend Lincoln, Hamilton, Dry Creek, and Queen of Angels elementary schools. lt is planned to institute the same educational program and services now pro- vided for pupils at Roosevelt Junior High School. This year the local district employed its first foreign exchange teachers-Dr. Kurt bletz of Germany and Nlr. Williani Addinall of Australia. The purpose of the exchange teacher plan is to improve international under- standing, to enrich the lives of children by bringing them in contact with teachers from foreign lands, and to aid in the improvement of instruction by learning something of the educational methods used in other countries. Altogether through the efforts of these leaders of our district, we have attained a reputation of which we may well be proud. LEFT TO RIGHT: Mr. Harold McLaughlin, athletic director, Mr. Wes Handy, curriculum director, Mr. Donald Sleeper, business manager. LEFT TO RIGHT: Mrs. Thelma Ringer, Miss Dena Wohlsein, Mrs. Shirley Martin, Mrs. Nadine Ferguson.
