This theme suggests many things to many people. The straight lines of discipline surround everyone throughout life. The physical lines of buildings and the mental lines of thought and procedure are everywhere. All these lines of discipline can be monotonous. Only color can relieve the strictness of lines. The softness of color serves as a tranquilizer or as a comfortable variation. Without color, lines would be most severe. With color, the lines of discipline can be endured. Discipline and relief are our connotations for lines and colors. We hope people will use their imaginations when they see our theme. 6

I SUPERINTENDENT On behalf of the members of the Port Allegany Union School Board, I congratulate you, the graduating class of 1964. The program of studies which you pursued while in high school was designed to provide you with skills, competencies, and understandings which are consistent with your aptitudes and interests. The real test of the effectiveness of your school experiences is still before you. That test is the manner in which you apply what you have learned to the practical problems of living in a free democratic society. It is our earnest hope that you face life's problems in such a way that you will clearly demonstrate that the sacrifices of all those who have helped provide for your education have been worthwhile. We trust that you will distinguish yourselves as a new generation of truly responsible Americans. We wish each of you great personal success and happiness and invite you to maintain close association with the schools of our community. ALBERT SKELTON Mr. Albert Skelton, Superintendent of Schools Mrs. Leah Lewis and the new secretary, Mrs. Jean Geneaux aid Mr. Skelton in the performance of his duties. 8
