DEDICATION In our school, there is a team of husband and wife who has ably contributed to our Vocational, Academic, and extracurricular programs. Their energetic, engaging personalities have provided the pleasant atmosphere that makes learning enjoyable. The Vocational Department has been fortunate to have Mrs. Babcock's experienced instruction and advice. Mr. Babcock has promoted the Academic program through his capable instruction of algebra. Together, they have trained many students in the field of sports. Mrs. Babcock has directed the cheerleaders, and Mr. Babcock has managed the Junior Varsity basketball team. They have contributed much to our school and its student body. Therefore, we proudly dedicate our annual, the 1964 Tiger Lily, to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Babcock. Mrs. Babcock relaxes at home. Mr. Babcock reviews an algebra lesson. 2 During the last four years, Mr. and Mrs. Babcock have been the only husband and wife team who have taught and actively participated in high school affairs. Therefore, the Senior Class wishes to acknowledge them in a special dedication. The Class of 1964 is the first class to dedicate its yearbook to two people. We sincerely believe that Mr. and Mrs. Babcock deserve this unique honor. Edward and his mother smile for the photographer. A picture is worth a thousand words. 3 YEARBOOK STAFF MESSAGE FROM STAFF The 1964 Tiger Lily isa product of several staffs. The Staffs arecom-prised of Seniors who donate much of their time to plan a yearbook that is a worthy representation of the Senior Class and Port Allegany Union High School. The Art Staff is responsible for the division pages that lend color and tone to a yearbook. Since a yearbook iscomposed ofnumerous pictures, the Photography Staff has the enormous task of taking, sizing, and developing these pictures. The Sports Staff plans the arrangements of pictures for the Sports Section. The Copy Staff supplements all pictures with adequate written material. To insure the perfection of the yearbook, the Proofreading Staff checks and rechecks all printed materials. The Typing Staff is responsible for the typing and neat ar- rangement of the printed material. To guarantee production of the yearbook, the Business Staff handles the financial matters. All of the staffs would like to take this opportunity to thank our Student Editors, our Chief Advisor Mr. Clark, and our Photography Advisor Mr. Owen for their guidance and help in the production of this successful yearbook—the 1964 Tiger Lily. 4 HEADS OF STAFF Yctta Schcibner .... This theme suggests many things to many people. The straight lines of discipline surround everyone throughout life. The physical lines of buildings and the mental lines of thought and procedure are everywhere. All these lines of discipline can be monotonous. Only color can relieve the strictness of lines. The softness of color serves as a tranquilizer or as a comfortable variation. Without color, lines would be most severe. With color, the lines of discipline can be endured. Discipline and relief are our connotations for lines and colors. We hope people will use their imaginations when they see our theme. 6 I SUPERINTENDENT On behalf of the members of the Port Allegany Union School Board, I congratulate you, the graduating class of 1964. The program of studies which you pursued while in high school was designed to provide you with skills, competencies, and understandings which are consistent with your aptitudes and interests. The real test of the effectiveness of your school experiences is still before you. That test is the manner in which you apply what you have learned to the practical problems of living in a free democratic society. It is our earnest hope that you face life's problems in such a way that you will clearly demonstrate that the sacrifices of all those who have helped provide for your education have been worthwhile. We trust that you will distinguish yourselves as a new generation of truly responsible Americans. We wish each of you great personal success and happiness and invite you to maintain close association with the schools of our community. ALBERT SKELTON Mr. Albert Skelton, Superintendent of Schools Mrs. Leah Lewis and the new secretary, Mrs. Jean Geneaux aid Mr. Skelton in the performance of his duties. 8 PRINCIPAL I extend my sincere congratulations to each graduate of the class of 1964. You have reached an important step in your life and you may be proud of this achievement. I hope you will temper your pride with a humbleness of spirit. This humbleness should result from a realization of the vast amount of knowledge that you have not yet mastered and the awareness of the need to continue learning throughout your entire life. I trust that the education you have received thus far will equip you with the basic knowledge to begin your life's work or to begin further training for your life's work. I hope that your elementary and high school education will also lead you in a continued search for beauty and truth. It is only in this search that you will become mature men and women able to experience the real joys of life. A couple enjoy the festivities of the prom. It was Apple Blossom Time in our gymnasium. The enchanting hues of turquoise and white accented this springtime theme. As the couples danced to the music of Al Cecchi, a tall apple tree cast soft shadows. The music, the tree, and the couples were part of a special night that can never be recreated, but will always be remembered. Dexic approaches the throne and her coronation. 26 HOMECOMING The 'crowning Jewel' of Homecoming. The majorettes set the pace for the Homecoming. As Seniors, we are especially aware of the importance of tradition. Therefore, we are proud to give Port High and our community an opportunity to establish the tradition— of the Homecoming. A Homecoming is planned to honor the alumnus, and to provide them with the chance to revisit places, remember events, and renew acquaintances. The first event was a parade that included the Port and Coudersport bands, six floats, and our Homecoming Queen and her court. After the parade, the crowd gathered at the football field to witness a victory for the Gators and the crowning of Port's first Homecoming Queen, Penny Linnan. Miss Linnan reigned over a Homecoming Dance that concluded the day's events. LAUREL FESTIVAL REPRESENTATIVE Miss Penny Cochran was chosen by her classmates to represent them at the Laurel Festival in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. Penny's gentle beauty and winning ways made her the ideal candidate. She will long be remembered by her classmates as a graceful, winsome queen. . TV' v ■1 v IwfSf Connie Gregory competed with thirty-four other girls at Renovo, Pennsylvania.on October 12 and 13, 1963. Connie's bright smile and friendly air make her our queen for every day. Thank you Connie, for making our school a brighter place. FLAMING FOLIAGE REPRESENTATIVE 28 MAY FESTIVAL Patty Kelly portrays a springtime mood In her ensemble. 29 “Sitting Pretty at the 1963 May Festival. Originally, the purpose of the May Festival was to honor the May Queen. The Port High HomeKconomicsdepartment has supplemented this occasion with a fashion show. This fashion show gives the girls an opportunity to display their sewing abilities to the community. To stimulate competition in this field, the Home Economic's department chooses only those garments that meet the highest standards to be modeled before the May Queen and her court. Betty anticipates keen competition this year. STUDENT COUNCIL Left to right: Cyril Bowser, Vice-President; James Brundage, President; Carlene Fessenden, Secretary-Treasurer.
