, - i'iffl':fn Charley Manning and Jeanne Chapin observe the historical marker on South Main Street. In the history of McKean County, Port Alle- gany has played a significant part. In its role as an early settlement, it acquired the second name of Canoe Place. It was from this com- munity that the Indians and pioneers placed their canoes and rafts into the Allegheny 'River and continued their 'westward movement. Port Allegany was the logical Canoe Place because it was located at the end of the twenty-three mile portage which crossed from the headwaters of the Susquehanna to the headwaters of the Allegheny. In a similar manner, the Seniors continue from Port Allegany. It is the Canoe Place for the beginning of their adult life. We the class of 1962 present on the follow- ing pages a record of the faculty, curriculum, special events, clubs, athletics, and students that had part in the school year of 1961-1962. FORE ORD f I.
