Trees furnished fuel, shelter, and food for the early sett- lers. They were responsible for the logging industry which furnished products of bark and lumber. Trees later became important in the manufacture of paper and furniture. Today, trees and their products form an important part of the economy of Port Allegany. In the growth of a tree, much can be compared with the growth of an individual. Trees grow tall in seeking lightg students grow mentally tall in seeking knowledge. Each tree is a unique creationg each student is a unique individual with his own capa- cities and interests. By such comparisons, trees have been used to relate the various facets of our school our faculty ou1 classes our activitles and our athletics W ff Q' fX if Mr. Holleran and his Wife A1111 at the Junior Senior Prom. 4 111' V '1' if ' l 7' our C00 erafiue 1 V V bM A 1 1 P1ctu1r,d vxhllg Lhecklng, then mulboxcs ue M15 VV11ner md Mr Blbuogk Eileen Smith on the rings in gym class. This yearls season began on Memorial Day under the direction of Mrs. Margaret Tronetti. Although the water temperature hovered around the lifties and low sixties, many of the hardier swimmers got wet with a quick, refreshing dip. Instruction classes held this year were Be- ginners, Intermediate, Advanced, Junior Life Saving, and Senior Life Saving. Bowling has been one of the fastest growing sports in Port Allegany. Under the direction and coaching of Mr. Brown, stu- dents may learn how to improve their bowling scores. Many students have been active in the various teams that compose the high school bowling league. Bowling is also extremely popular with the teachers and par- ents. So popular is this sport that a new bowling alley has been planned to supplement the present one at the Masonic Hall. L. to R.: P. Stuckcy, M, Turner, E. Pmcho-ck, S. VVarncr. S. lford, QI. Babola, Mr. Brown, j. Goodrich. The Boyls Tumbling Club is one of the larg- est in the school. It is composed of forty-seven members from grades seven through twelve. The members meet each Monday night to work on the various pieces of gymnastic equipment. In previous years the Boyls Tumbling Club has presented, with the Cirl,s Tumbling Club, a gym show. Although no official show was held this year, the Boy,s Tumbling Club did present an excellent exhibition of gymnastic exercises during the half-time of the Port Merchant- Harlem Ambassador exhibition basketball game. Otlicers of the club this year were: Bob Tay- lor, President, Secretary and Treasurer, VVally Finn, Equipment Manager, Roger Patton, and Shower-room Manager, Allen Klein. TUMBLING The Cirlls Tumbling Club is also one of the largest in the school. It is composed of fifty- three girls from grades seven to twelve. The club has no ofhcial elected officers. Their meetings are under the direction of Mrs. Margaret Tronetti. The club meets each Thursday night from 6:30 to 9 olclock. At this time the members work on the various pieces of equipment. The pur- pose of the club is the obtaining of good fun and well-coordinated bodies. The seniors are the tallest trees, or the most mature students, of school society. Their social and intellectual development represents the Hnal product of high school. Now, like trees that i seek to become taller and stronger, the Seniors must seek their own respective goal or purpose. t 1 Ki,l.. i,,, 11 ..i, , I Z fe, I 2, s c nigga, at - .ix rbr. I , 7 ,h.
