HOMECOMING QT: Donald Mitchell and Rhonda Wheless parade down the field. With most of Bull Island filling the stands, the football game against Sus- sex Central began. The teams clashed in a competition of strategy and strength. Excitement filled the air; crowds cheered, yelled, and groaned as the foot- ball either crossed the goal line or stop- ped short. Half time entertainment was a panorama of fantasy. Comic Strip Char- acters was the Homecoming theme. Linus, Charlie Brown, Winnie the Pooh The Sophomore Class float, Charlie Brown, captured first place. and Garfield the Cat, all atop class floats, were present to add to the gaiety. The Sophomore Class float captured first place with the Juniors taking sec- ond. Mr. Tim Smith led his award- winning marching band in an enter- taining combination of music and for- mations of flags, pom-poms and marchers. The kaleidoscope of color and movement served as the perfect set- ting for the announce ment of the 1979 Homecoming Queen. Ciny Holloway was crowned as thundersous applause resounded from the grandstands. The whirlwind of the evening con- tinued even as half time ended and Cindy took her place to watch the game’s second half. The Islanders fought courageously in both the third and fourth quarters. The final score, however, fell in favor of the opposition. Homecoming continued on into the weekend with the traditional Home- coming Dance, sponsored by the Na- tional Honor Society. The sounds of disco, rock ’n roll and ballads filled the night air, adding a finishing touch to the magic of Homecoming.
