Homecoming Court. Homecoming week has always been an exciting time at Poquoson High. A week when the four classes battle out the fight of the floats and the win- ner of the votes! This year the float theme was ‘The Movies” and the win- ner was the Junior class with their float ‘Murder on the Islander Express’. The other side of the maddening competition was the electing of the Homecoming court. This years Home- coming queen was Rene Nita Gori es- corted by Brian Ferguson. Her court was made up of other senior representa- tives Tricia Sullivan and Chris O’Neil and Donna Jurosky and Stan Jones. Ju- nior Class representatives were Kim Gardner and D.G. Mitchell. DeDe Spivey and Charlie Fulnecky served for the Sophomore class. Rhonda Thurman and Les Drain pulled in the most votes from their Freshman class. . ee eS ze ic a $ tee Senior class representative Tricia Sullivan escorted by Chris O'Neil. The hours of practice, the hot baths, the Ben-Gay. The constant rolling of the hills and the swaying of trees in the wind, all are part of the cross country runner. The path taken is laden with mud and sticks and the birds and crickets cheer the runner on as he trudges through the forest and along the dusty roads. His pulse quickens as he begins the final sprint. And then it is over. Totally exhausted, the runner’s legs give way, and for the first time in twenty minutes, he relaxes. 19 20 The 1978 season proved to be almost perfect for the girls J.V. basketball team. After posting a regular season record of 14 and 4, the team lost to Bru- ton for the J.V. Championship by one point. The first play ‘“Happily Never After’ made the audience forget about their troubles for awhile, while the charac- ters worked out their own bizarre prob- lems. The second play, ‘“Which is the Way to Boston?” kept the audience in hopeful suspense as they wondered if the girl would die. The third play, ‘’Di- ary of Adam and Eve’’ was a comedy which taught the audience a little bit about human nature and the facts of life. When asked how she felt about the plays, Mrs. Dot VanDervort, the drama coach stated, ‘I was really pleased with the performances and professionalism exibited in all the productions. I am looking forward to another successful play this spring.” FALL PRODUCTION Aunt Martha (Kathy Martin) is comforted by Mary (Marie Watkins) While Uncle John (Jim McBride) reads a telegram to Chris (S. As the new season started, Coach Day was “‘confident about winning, but he wasn’t sure how tough AA compitition was.” This years over all record was 11-1. The only loss was to Bethel by one point. Mr. Day feels that ‘’a teams biggest accomplishment is winning State, but it is getting tougher and tougher because we have won three consecutive titles, and everyone is out to stop us.” This year, 12 wrestlers went to State. This is the most any one coach has ever sent. Out of those 12, six placed and three were State Champs. Coach Day is counting more on winning next year then he was this year, because he “knows more about the District and has three returning State Champs”; Keith Roberts — 2 time State Champ, Olen Evens Jr., and Steve Green have the possibility of becoming 2 or even 3 time champs. Coach Day definently feels that ‘‘We Are the Champions”!!! Olen Evens Jr. receiving the title of number one in the 155 weight group. The honor of becoming the State Champ for the 119 weight group goes to Keith Roberts.
