The cover sets the theme which is used throughtoutthe book The Bluff 89 staff would like to thank Mike Cates, the artist of the cover, for his cooperation and use of his great talent The “BLUFF” Court A highlight for many at PBHS: Prom 88 Mamata Reddy — Quill and Scroll, Star Graduate, NHS. — Brian and Mitzi — Basketball Homecoming Escort and Queen. Nathan Kalich — NHS, Star Graduate. A lime % Of Honor Step by step, rung by rung, we climbed to the top of our ladders. Highlighting the year, many students worked around the clock to make it a time to remember. Royalty reigned, graduates shone, and the publishers of Quill £c Scroll polished the year to a finish. As Homecoming nights and our Valentines enter our memory books forever, images of Prom 1988 will always remain in our dreams. 1988-89 has been a time for reflecting prominence. From the first day we flooded the hallways, to the day the last member of the Class of 89 grasped that diploma, we honored those that stepped to the top. °°s o«sV4 l' • „ 1 Vr°; „ « ■ i Bluff 19 l| Queen 89 «1 1988 FOOTBALL HOMECOMING Brad Massey Staci Stiber Chris Hinrichs Balinda Adams Kory Myers Dawn Summers Terry Johnson Shauntae Laird «i9 t i ' rJ'MT'Dawn f Korea, .Ba!-.nda tOvris , Stna «.Brea A gSBhjSfe - .4 fe‘.'7 “l rsgsfv, a® S® Pi 3G5 J3§|GO WW ES «9 BASKETBALL HOMECOMING 1989 ? ♦ r .. -jj Escort Brian Queen ig}£ Mitzi Talkington «o FEBRUARY 3 1989 EVENT: BASKETBALL HOMECOMING UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE: NO SCHOOL (ICE) OPPONENTS: SIKESTON — BULLDOGS FINAL SCORE! 73-66 SENIOR B-BALL PLAYERS: 1. What is Key Club? Key Club is a service organization for high school students. The club is sponsored by the local Poplar Bluff Kiwanis club, which is composed of business and professional men of the community. The club aims in the development of initiative, leadership ability, and good citizenship practices. Key Club is unique because it is not solely on the local level. There is a District and an International level. It is the larg- est service organization of its kind in the world with over 105,000 mem- bers and some 3,500 clubs. PBHS’ Key Club has held such activities this year as their Can- Dance and a road block to earn mon- ey for the Special Olympic. They also helped with Boy Scouting for Amer- ica and other small projects. The Drug Awareness week brought speakers to our classes' , ghosts- to 9ur halls, and blaring sirens to'attend to the mock wreck victims. -DON'T PRINK ANT DRIVE!!! From pep assemblies to athletic events, we took time out from school to view our teams in action. Sporting 10 athletic programs, several with separate girls and boys teams, and three cheerleading squads, PBHS boasts loyalty to the maroon and white. While both basketball teams stepped up to state ranks, the wrestlers grappled under the direction of a new coach. The tennis and volleyball teams netted several wins and numerous other teams earned victories as well. The 1988-89 athletic season promised and delivered action. With spirit in our hearts for our athletes on the court, track, and field, we showed our pride. Not a moment passed during that time without catching sight of a teacher, fellow student, school official or employee. The familiar faces of our peers were also a part of life outside of school, brightening our lives and livening up our weekends. Good times with friends became great memories of another school year and the steps we took to making new friendships became the solid foundations for future reunions. Along with these new-found faces, we will continue crossing the paths of many. Maintaining old friendships contributes to meeting new ones. After all, one is silver and the other is gold. Life was constantly in motion, as we lived our high school days to the fullest. Taco Bell was advertised as a new place to grab a bite to eat. McDonald's remained ever-popular, even after a second year of closed campus. Parking lots, movie theaters, and video rental stores were also often crowded with high school kids. Working weekdays to earn spending money for the weekends, we enjoyed our time spent with friends and valued the time between the moment we stepped out of the house, and the hour when curfew fell. Places to go, people to meet and things to do ... Each regulated our daily lives in ways we ll always remember. Tracey Tinsley AIds Editor 316 W. Stoddard Dexter, MO 63841 (314) 624-2703 MARSHA F. STUDENTS ARE HAPPIER Nobody’s more concerned about underage drinking than Anheuser-Busch. That’s why we support S.A.D.D. — Students Against Driving Drunk. Using education and peer pressure, it makes, teenagers think twice about driving drunk. A key part of the program is a Contract for Life. Here, parents and teenagers formally promise each other to find a safe way home when faced with a potential drunk driving situation. We’re proud to be a sponsor of this important program. We’ve tried to collect many memories or steps of the 1988-89 school year. In the future we can all look back at great times spent at PBHS. We would like to thank the “Bluff’ ’89 Staff for their hard work and devotion of their time. A big thank you goes to Mamata Reddy for her journalistic talents. Also we want to thank Crutchfield Photography, Joe Craig Photography, and the Daily American Republic for their time and cooperation. Please forgive us for our mistakes. We hope we have captured many fond memories as you’ve taken your STEP IN TIME at PBHS. And to our Father of Publications, Coach Caputo, whom we owe so much, thanks for being patient and teaching us responsibility. Co-Editors, —
