For these are memories good and bfld, In future times to recall. All the high school fun we’ve had, And friendships built that cannot fall. There are some very special memories, We will never be able to forget. And others not so pleasant, We might feel that we regret. But the best advice to all; Is to keep these memories near. And to treasurer them forever, Every day from year to year. -— Kim Yeakley — i i 12 ST. With no chance of a Conference Championship or State Play-off birth. Especially with games with Cape Central, Springfield Glendale, and Colum- bia Hickman left on the schedule. However, as Yogi Bear would say “It’s not over ’til it’s over.” The Mules won the remainder of games on its schedule to finish 7-3, and got help from Cape Central when they defeated Sikeston. Another loss by Sikeston to Ladue vaulted the Mules to a 1st place finish in the District with Sikeston finishing 2nd. Poplar Bluff revenged an early loss to Sikeston in the 1st Play-off game with a 17-6 victory. Emotions and enthusiasm ran high the next week as the Mules prepared to do battle with the Pioneers of Kirkwood, a very talented team. The Mules had won nearly every statistic in the game except one ... the score ... 17-21!!! To compare the ’84 Mules with other teams in the past would be unfair and ridiculous. Many teams have had better records but ’84 will always be the first to play in the State Play-Off system!!! Congratulations to the 1984-84 Poplar Bluff Mules from the PBHS Student Body!! Steve Warner of Hughes, Arkansas, took over the baton upon the retirement of Bil Salyer after 26 years as director of the band. Ken Car- roll of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas came to PBHS as assistant director of SHO-ME. These changes, however, didn’t hurt the SHO-ME Band, as they improved their record from last . season. SHO-ME placed 2nd in the Washington, MO Competition. The following week, despite rainy weather, the band placed 2nd at the Francis Howell Invitational Marching Contest. Field Commanders Jeff Kennedy, Molly Dolle, and 88 Amy Reid received the award for Best Drum Major. Ending the ’84 marching season, SHO-ME traveled to Jonesboro, Arkansas for the ASU Marching contest. Although SHO-ME placed 2nd in the competition, the band brought home several overall awards. Trophies for Best Brass, Best Woodwinds, Best Drum Major, and Best Majorettes were presented, as well as an award for a Superior rating. Good work, Steve and Ken! We had the assistance of a very hard-working and cooperative staff, and a very tolerative advisor. We want to take this time to apologize for all mistakes that went uncorrected. Also to thank Mr. Vance and his art class, the DAR, and Joe Craig of Craigs Photography in Dexter, for the extra help they gave us to give this yearbook the quality it portrays. Always keep precious the memories you share with your friends in the short time spent at P.B.H.S., for very soon you’ll all be going your separate ways. BEST WISHES TO ALL!!!
