It is an outstanding organiza- tion that brings recognition to our school and our community. To the students that par- ticipate in the Sho-Me Band, it means hard work, devo- tion, and most of all pride; Pride in themselves and pride in being a part of this worthy group. Every year, Sho-Me travels to various contests to com- pete with representatives from the midwestern states. But before any of these com- petitions can begin, the band has to learn and prepare a ten minute fieldshow. Sho- Me begins practice at the beginning of August, before school is in session. After school begins, the band is divided into two separate but equal bands. These bands are in separate hours and march on separate halves of the field. At the first football game, the two bands are brought together to perform for the first as Sho-Me Band. From this point, the pride and devotion builds until contest season. White Band Librarian Jo Richey 78 Pride This year’s competition schedule lead Sho-Me to Francis Howell Viking Band Contest at St. Charles. At this contest the band took awards for best field commander, best auxiliary line, best majorette line, first place in 4A division and overall superior band of the day. After this “clean sweep”, Sho-Me was ready for its biggest competition of the season, The Greater St. Louis Marching Festival, which was held at Lindenwood College Stadium. Despite all efforts by the members of the band, Sho- Me was edged out by tenths of a point to receive a third place trophy. For the final competi- tion, the band traveled to Jonesboro, Arkansas. Sho-Me received a trophy for the best woodwind section of the day and a superior, one rating. The Band also received an overall second place sweepstakes trophy that stands four feet in height. This concluded the contest season and the band performed an encore concert for the com- munity supporters; then brought the marching season to an end at the annual band banquet. Another marching season had drawn to a close leaving an abundance of memories with the participants. These memories are what creates the devout nature of the organization, and it’s the pride that brings 150 students together to create the SHO-ME BAND. Although it is hard to record the memories of one complete year in just a few short pages, we have tried our best to create a book to re- mind you of the best years of your life. Of course this could not have been accomplished without you, the student body, you make Poplar Bluff High School complete. Sincerely, “Bluff” Co-Editors-In-Chief 244 Sherry Arant and Angee Giambelluca
