The Missouri State Teachers Associa- tion in its 1964 Convention in Kansas City adopted the following resolution: Democracy is dependent upon an educa- ted citizenry; that the public schools con- tribute significantly to national unity, common purpose, and equality of oppor- tunity among our people and that educa- tion is the greatest constructive force at the disposal of democratic people for the solution of their problems. This statement has always been true and will continue to be more so as the com- plex society in which we live becomes more complex. The educational progress that we have made in the Poplar Bluff Schools in the last few years has been significant but we must not rest and be satisfied. We must continue the progress of our schools, both in physical plant and academic of- ferings, to meet the needs of the future boys and girls of this community. Superintendent of Schools I am sure that all the students of Senior High have given much thought to what the future might hold for them. I challenge you to think through this thought that James Allen has left with us. Whatever your present environment may be. you will fall, remain, or rise with your thoughts, your visions, your ideals. You will become as small as your controlling desire, as great as your dominant aspiration 15 Assistant Superintendent

School 'Bomd Every worthwhile institution neces- sitates having organizers who are will- ing to give freely of their time and energy. Such are the members of our school board. These individuals insure high physical and educational stand- ards for the Poplar Bluff School System. As students, we know that under the leadership of these people we shall secure everything necessary in attaining an education. Thadis R. Seifert, Vice-Pres. Dr. Fred J. Biggs, President J. B. Jeffress Harold Lacy Ray Penney, Sec. Earl Parkin 14

The men of Israel dug their wells deep to reach the waters so necessary for physi- cal life. We too must dig deep into our spiritual thinking and our philosophy of life today if we are to compete in fulfilling our mission in this ever changing world of ours. Hold fast to the good and enduring things in life: love, kindness, honesty, de- cency, responsibility, and understanding the other person's position and his right to believe. Hitch your wagon to a star, but don't get stuck in the mire of human wasteful- ness and deceit. You are a wonderful group of young people. It has been a pleasure to share life's experiences with you. Principal The United States of America is the richest na- tion ever to exist. It seems almost paradoxical that twenty per cent of our nation lives in poverty, and yet we could be on the verge of a new Golden Age! The challenge to Americans is an educational one. We do not lack jobs, but we lack the tools and skills to acquire employment. Contemporary students must furnish the initia- tive, desire, and courage to provide themselves with the skills of education which will be compati- ble with their future employment and careers. You as students pass through these portals but once! Take full advantage of all the possibilities that your community and state offers to yqu. Sincerely, 16 Assistant Principal
