% Maps, charts, and globes are a few of the helping hands to those inter- ested in learning more about the world in which they live. It is the aim of the Division of Social Studies to give the student an adequate back- ground for the understanding of present day political, social, and economic life and to develop in the student an active sense of res- ponsibility for citizenship. The division offers courses in many fields of the social studies which survey the activities of men as members of social groups. In such courses the classes are concerned with the achievement of mankind, in developing cultures, institutions, govern- ments, and economic organizations and in searching for solutions for human problems.
