The ever popular chorus and music classes are designed not only to be useful but also for relaxation. Our teachers, Joe Smith and Martha Stewart, strive to plan their courses to help the individual, as well as the group, because they feel that education should fit people for living a full, satisfactory life. Sssence of MU Sciences Offered in science are physics chemistry, and biology. These sciences are keys to the past and future in that they are important to every phase of modern living. Jewell Ivester, and Keith Miller, are the instructors of this large branch of learning at P.B.H.S. The mathematics courses encourage clear thinking and perserverance. Through the intelligent study of math- ematical principles, students are pre- pared for future scientific, industrial, or professional careers. Louis Sewell is the instructor of geometry, advanced algebra, and trigonometry.

Speech techniques are learned in a special course thr- ough actual participation. Our teacher, Mrs. Kinder stresses efficiency in all types of ex- pression which good citizens will need in their social, rec- reational, and vocational pur- suits jCanguage is the Many skills are stressed in our P.B.H.S. English courses. In addition to the fundamentals of grammar, the pupil is taught to interpret and evaluate what he reads. Vocabulary and literary appreciation are aided by the many written and oral activities which are offered by the teachers of English: Cassie Aldrich, Joyce Brake, Myrtle Corbett, Mary Crowe, Oleta Daniel, Ruth Minetree, and Zora Stevens. French is the foreign language of- fered at P.B.H.S. under the instruction of Joyce Brake. The students who elect to take this subject acquire a knowledge of the structure of the language and a speaking command through translations. 16

Applied Academics Under the leadership of Hert Wickman, members of the art classes are striving to further scholastic in- terest in, and understanding of art by developing a better appreciation of the basic principles through self-ex- pression and general application. In the physical education department, Mrs. Powers, Mr. Wyatt, Mr. McKeel, Mr. Gibbs, and Mr. Wickham are trying to aid normal body growth and promote hygienic habits of exercise. They endeavor to present a sportsmanlike program of physically wholesome, mentally stimulating, and socially sound activities which contribute to the present and future well-being of the students. 18 At P.B.H.S, the driver's training course promotes and encourages safe and courteous driving. During the two sem- ester courses, Richard Kinder stresses self-confidence by requiring each pupil to drive in traffic. Through the use of visual aids, eye tests, text- book material, movies,and the necessary information re- quired to pass their State drivers' test, each student is personally helped to become a skilled, safe, and courteous driver.
