CDedication The worth of high school cannot be measured by the beauty of its buildings, by the money that is spent upon it, or the most gifted of its students and faculty. The true worth of a high school is measured by its effect on the community of which it is a part-by the Influence of all those who have given their time, their thoughts, and a good part of their hearts to it. With this idea in mind The Bluff Staff of 1957 has written our BOOK OF MEMORIES, as a tribute to our last year in the Vine Street High School Building. 2 ore won All of life is like a book, and each year is a chapter which we write and add to our lives. THE BLUFF is an edition in words and pictures of one chapter in the lives of you, the students and faculty of Popular Bluff High School. You planned it and the Annual Staff erf 1957 has written it. Chapter IV Table of Contents Page Chapter I .........SETTING.............5 Chapter II .CHARACTERS..........15 Chapter III............PLOT .ACTION..............93 Chapter V ,. .CLIMAX.............119 Chapter VI...........SUBSCRIBERS Take the fellow above and multiply him by 725; take the room above and multiply It by six class periods and approximately three allied activities and you have the setting of our story. At the first sign of spring an assorted group of P. B. H.S. boys don their golf shoes, grab up their clubs, and equipped with a plentiful supply of golf balls make for the links to try their hand at what is rapidly becoming a very popular sport in our High School. The fact that golf is, in itself, a highly enjoyable sport, coupled with the fact that it is free from the usual grind of calisth- enics and skull practices, associated with most sports, makes its participants a very agreeable group. In addition to this, the golf team was highly successful last season, under the excellent supervision of Coach Gibbs, as it posted six wins to one loss. EDITOR S MESSAGE The CLASS OF 1957 will be remembered as the last graduating class of the old high school building of PBHS. Readers of The Bluff —take pride in its record over the years. Founded in 1914, it has been educating the youth of Poplar Bluff with a constantly expanding, progressive curriculum. From its halls have gone forth leaders in many fields. Years come and go, passing by almost unnoticed. Yet, with dignity and serenity which time and historical events give an institution. Poplar Bluff moves ever forward and a new modern building will replace the old which has served so well, so long. And now, we leave these halls with many cherished memories, and also with the assurance that our school is moving into a future of even greater service to its citizens in the years ahead. 120 Miss Melva Tate jfiditor The Bluff Poplar Bluff High Sc Poplar Bluff, Missoi It was a pleasure to judge your Bluff tueen. By working together the staff com- piles what it deems to be the news of the school and pre- sents it to the job shop of the Daily American Republic. There the type is set and about one- thousand copies are run off for distribution to the school. Many hours of labor, talent and time are put in on this pub- lication.
