It super- vises the construction of all new buildings and repair of the present plants. Also its responsibilities include the hiring of adequate personnel and the addition of various departments in the curriculum of both grade and high schools. Each major political party is represented on the board with new members being added at each city election. They are to be commended for their excellent work in giving this high school a well- rounded program such as ours, and we the students of Poplar Bluff Senior High School should be truly grateful. li is l 1 Left to Right E W Iiles H E Collard C E ONeal. Student Manaqer 'Q' Summar of Cage Season The Mules started the current season with an A game at Cairo. They took the floor with a bad case of stagefright and were consequently downed by the Pilots. Then they traveled to Cape Girardeau for the lirst annual Big Four tournament. Sikeston fell to the Mules in the iirst round ol play and it was Jackson who was the victim in the final night of play. As a result of these two victories we had a big Four championship. Making their iirst appearance on the home lloor, the Mules had two successive engagements with Bismarck and Desloqe on December 21 and 22 and our boys were the winners in both games. Too much to eat and very little wind caused the Mules to lose out to Delta in the iirst round of the Christmas tourney at Cape on December 26. To put it mildly we were simply out- hustled. but the boys made a gallant try in the closing three minutes, and were nosed out by two points. Resuming regular scheduled play alter the tournament. the Mules proceeded to knock off Kennett by ten points: Caru- thersville in a more contested game by one point: and Iackson on our home floor by seven markers. Then the Mules took on their arch-rivals, the Doniphan Dons on the Dons' court. We were promptly sunk in that one and found ourselves on the short end of a 55-42 score. How- ever the B Mules set the little Dons down in the preliminary game 33-32. Homecoming was up -next but the Cape Tigers put the damper on any victorious celebration plans we miqht have had. All homecoming celebrations were excellent only the Tigers won the game 50-42. Once again the Mules hit the road and met the Dexter Bearcats this time. Everyone played in this one and the Mules were easy victors 60-39. Things weren't so easy with the Blytheville Chickasaws. They had a team with height, but the Mules controlled the backboards, and eked out a one point victory. Doniphan came over the following Tuesday. bringing everyone but the nightwatchman and the town constable. An inspired team was out tar the bacon and we came home with it with a 5.-45 victory which sure looked sweet on our side of the ledger. To make a long story short the Mules won the remaining four regular-scheduled games with wins over' Charleston, Bay- less. Clarkton and Van Buren to close out the season. At last the event happened for which we had been look- ing all season-the regional tournament at Sikeston. Our Mules were seeded iirst and Sikeston played us on the opening night oi the shindig. We promptly greeted them with a 70-49 win and took Kennett in the semi-tinals by a score ol 68-46. Senath was the only obstacle between us and the state tourney and we met that situation by deleating them 44-31 and it gained for us the right to play in the state meet held in Columbia starting March 5.
