'l'lie Senior Class opened this yeai-'s activities with its usual bitterly fought elec- tion. When the haze of battle cleared, they found that they had elected the following: Alvin Hess, Presidentg Wendell Hubbs, Vice Presidentg I'e5:gy Shields, Secretary, and Idlvis Aldrich, Treasurer. i The Seniors took part in just about everything' that happened at l'I3lIS during' the year. The class members on the athletic teams will be missed by their teammates next year. During: midyear, the class was scheming a way to finish making arrangements for their long awaited trip to New 01'Ieans. Hei'e's hoping they got there. With graduation inevitable, Seniors began around January to feverishly count credits. Some had the requirements, while others-weII, they're still counting. CONGRATULATIONS SENIORS Poplar Bluff, Mo., May 1, 1947-Mr. Connor of the Biology De- partment of Poplar Bluff Senior High, was apprehended last evening after a reckless chase on Barron Road. Mr. Connor has long been suspected as head of a butterfly-kid- naping ring operating between Fisk and Wappapello, but never before has opportunity afforded itself for his capture. The break came earlv this week when Biology students complained of the small amount of time spent in the laboratory by Mr. Connor. This gave officers Booker and Bess a chance for some extra. dough for an arrest. They always grab these chances and sally forth this time after one more public enemy. He was sighted just north of Blakeney's Dairy pursuing a small dog and posing as dog catcher, but his butterfly net gave him away. Detective Booker ordered him to halt, but instead this villain mounted a waiting bicycle and peddled the way the compass points. Never has Butler County's history had such a dramatic race. Picture, if you can, this hard-hearted teacher pedaling furiously over Barron Road with his butterfly net flying in the breeze and his murderous laugh floating back at his slow fat pedes- trian pursuers. fContinued four pages later, CONGRATULATIONS, SENIORS From Missouri Utilities Com pan LOMI L1MLNlb O14 S H A N N O N'S FLOWER SHOP I O8 VINE STPEET PHONE 112 'VISIT US WIIISN IN NICIGID OF ANYTIIING IN FINE JEWELRY ' f- W - W THADIS SI5IFlCR'I', Manager 115 North Main Phone 22 .e'x4' ,-lg, BERTSQNf w3Q,j,j-P54 HOME OFFICE POPLAR BLUFF, MO. 520 Cedar Street Phone 132 ST. He was placed in arms and escorted off to the top floor of our Court House. Two of his underground henchmen, Mr. Peters and Charlie Qualls have fled to the Ozark llills where planes drone overhead and a new posse beats the underbrush each day in search of them. Their capture is expected hourly since they are leaderless and half of the wit Coming from such a pair doesn't add up to one wit. Phone 103 The football team was off to a flying start that warm evening back in September when they won an overwhelming victory over the Piggott Mohawks, a score of 31-0. The next four games the Mules split gy defi-:ating Jackson and Kennett and losing to Perryville and Cape entra . Finally a tragedy crushed our power. In the game with Sikeston three first team men received broken legs and by the end of the season only a few remained of the first string eleven. After that incident the Mules didn't score again. They were defeated by the Caruthersville Tigers and the Charleston Blue Jays and fought out a 0-0 tie with Dexter on Turkey Day. The five-Mule-team won their first six games and then were de- feated by a strong Springfield club. This followed with twelve wins before losing the last game in the regional. It was very hard for those gallant Mules to lose to a fine Hornersville quintet in the Kennett Re- gional, 37-32. It was an even harder game to lose for the four who were playing their last game in maroon and white. The Mules played the same kind of ball that night that had given them eighteen vic- tories against two defeats for the season. Outstanding accomplishments were defeating Cape Central twice in one season, defeating Bloomfield, who won the Dexter regional, and gaining one victory over Hornersville, who made a good standing in the State Tournament. The folks around here have seen some good basketball in the past two seasons. The team this year was one of the best in the history of our high school, and there was no question that it was the best Little Team in this area. The citizens of the town proved their loy- alty, too, by being on hand to back all the athletic events-whether football, basketball or track-whether at home or 200 miles awayf They always lustily sang the school song, Loyalty, Take it from t e stu- dents that they will still be talking about those '47 teams in 1980, especially the Seniors.
