Flickering shafts of light have driven back the shadows of darkness, put fear into the hearts of fierce beasts while establish- ing a glowing warmth of confidence and well being in all who stood within its protective circle of lumines- cence, and guided through danger concealing obscurity all those who sought the pathways to other things and other places. Thus shall. the Torch of Knowledge shed its blinding lances of learning into the murky abyss of each of the minds of all who shall come forth to stand and be bathed in its enkindled glow, and for all gener- ations shall that glow endure, brighten, and illuminate a far greater number of the amassed millions seeking knowledge, so that they might arise from the depths of their degradation. This torch-base immovable, - shaft unbreakable, flame undying, light unquenchable shall remain a sym- bol everlasting. I
