These same sentiments are what educators and administrators generally express in their final High School Year Book commentaries. While this is the time for anticipating begin- nings , it is also a time, possibly the first in your young lives, to look back critically, to analyze, and to take stock. Your transition from elementary school through the junior high program and into senior high school was directedfor you. Now, as you look back through your past four years at Pontiac Central Senior High School, you will see that gradually you have begun to take charge, to direct what and who you are now as graduates as well as what and who you will become as adults. The opportunities for an excellent high school education delivered by a dedicated faculty have been available to each of you at Pontiac Central to realize the full extent of your varied abilities. Look back critically: How have you seized these opportunities? Have you developed and matured enough to understand that passing a class and being educated are not synonymous? Have you learned how to grade yourself honestly? As you commence your life as an adult, you must be responsible for monitoring your own careers, your own goals in higher education, your own contributions in life on every level. Will you settle for just passing or will you continue to strive for excellence? These most important grades - the ones that you must continue to give yourself in the coming years - will never be recorded on a transcript. They will, however, either set limits on your future or liberate you to explore and grow and experience greater success. May your memories of Pontiac Central High School recall for you some of your happiest days!
