You have heard these words on many occasions when I have spoken to you individually in classroom situations, and when I have addressed the entire student body I tried to reinforce this message by having it prominently displayed in all building offices and in our Commons area. This motto was not selected as a businessman chooses an advertising slogan for its slick, catchy phrase that promises nothing. Our motto is a statement of what We are all about here at Pontiac Central Senior High School. This is Where the thrust of our educational philosophy lies-with a promise of a realizable goal. We are constantly assailed on all fronts by implicit and explicit messages that deny us our individuality our personal responsibility our rights and privilege to grow and excel. We are viewed as ethnic groups, economic factions, political blocs, and the phrase no fault permeates our whole society While this subtle message says, You are no Worse than . . . it conversely says that you may become no better! These are no challenges when you are mired in mediocrity and there is also no individual success and no personal satisfaction. I promise you this: You make a difference in reaching for excellence. Take this promise with you as you enter college and the business World, as you raise your families and become the backbone of the community What YOU do counts! You, personally and individually can make a difference. Finally Seniors, as your building principal during these last four growing, formative years, let me once more challenge you: Make a difference! Reach for excellence!
