Dramatics Classes Develop Talent In the dramatics classes, emphasis is placed on individual performance. The student first studies various gestures, facial expressions and postures is to at¬ tain acting proficiency. These skills are more fully developed as the student gains experience in charade and pantomime techniques. As voice projection, control and self-confidence are acquired, it becomes easier for the neophyte to improvise. In the advanced dramatics classes the stu¬ dent works to perfect the acting techniques that had been previously taught. He also studies script reading which enables him to transfer reality into the charac¬ ters he portrays. The course also covers play produc¬ tion and the theater as an art form. Blocking the right moves is an intri¬ cate part of a successful dramatic production. Vic Adams, Connie Vanderlind and Jo Johnson are dramatic blockheads. Stuart Packard

The courses offered in the Speech Department are pro¬ grammed to fit the many needs of the students. Included in the range of subjects offered are speech, debate, radio speech and forensics. Speech classes instill self confidence and alertness. Radio speech stresses the production of radio plays and the technique of sound effect. In debate and forensics, logic and eloquence are developed. As proof of its effectiveness, the debate team won forty debates, losing only eight to win the Saginaw Valley Championship for the seventh time out of the last eight years. With the practical purpose of serving individual needs The Home Economics De¬ partment works with the purpose of benefitting the individual student. To assist in this goal, the department offers a number of coeducational courses. Because of the inevi¬ table progress and rapid pace of the 1960’s, new and ad¬ vanced materials and methods have become an accepted part of the curriculum. Such courses as Foods for boys, Food pre¬ paration, Food Serving, Ad¬ vanced Clothing, and Home Management are now a part of the regular class schedule. The department under the supervision of Carol Irish en¬ deavors to instill in its students some idea of their future roles as responsible members of a family. Carol Irish Jo Leino
