A potent medium of communication is the responsibility of Central’s Audio Visual Club Because of the classroom accent on special¬ ized research, more and more students make increasing use of the library’s educational facilities. This increase in library activity has placed in the librarians’ hands the demanding responsibility of selecting reputable books suited to the various interest levels of the student body. Supplying the classroom with enrichment in the form of recordings, movies and filmstrips, the audio-visual club is also under the general supervision of the library’s secretary, Dorothy Prevette. The club members, who are usually trained in a junior high audio visual program, show approximately two hundred films per semester. In planning future projects, the librarians hope to acquire copying machines, enabling the student to reproduce pictures and refer¬ ence materials that cannot be taken from the library. 13

SI David Barker holds the attention of a critical debate class. Tom Hahn and Roberta Wine practice their win¬ ning debate technique, (below) Forensic student, Nancy Appleton. The courses offered in the Speech Department are pro¬ grammed to fit the many needs of the students. Included in the range of subjects offered are speech, debate, radio speech and forensics. Speech classes instill self confidence and alertness. Radio speech stresses the production of radio plays and the technique of sound effect. In debate and forensics, logic and eloquence are developed. As proof of its effectiveness, the debate team won forty debates, losing only eight to win the Saginaw Valley Championship for the seventh time out of the last eight years.
