Our adminis- tration constantly and cap- ably performs in this capacity. The Pontiac School System is headed by Robert B. French, superintendent of schools, and Frank Du Frain, who assists him. Our principal, John Thors, Jr., is assisted by Miss Ola Hiller, who now occupies the position vacated last year by J. C. Covert. Mr. Russell heads the Vocational School, the work of which is now more necessary than ever. The essential position of Director of Curriculum in the Secondary Schools is effectively filled by George Clark. We appreciate our competent administrative body, and compliment them on their able managment. We catch Mr. Thors, our principal, in one of his very infrequent idle moments; and here is Miss Hiller, smilingly work- ing behind her desk. Right — Virginia Vreones and June Newcombe consult with Mr. Thors. Miss Ola B. Hiller, our new assist- ant principal, talks things over with Ethel Willing. Opposite Page, Upper Left — Robert B. French, Superintendent of Schools. Lower Left — E. C. Russell, Director of Voca- tional Education. Center Right — George L. Clark, Director of Curriculum. Lower Right — Frank J. Q[« J -nAA Inset — Looking down on the Circle , we see the parked cars of the faculty. Mr. Spotts smiles at us in the midst of his Biology class. Hk L iff Infinitely We find Miss Hook smiling good-naturedly as we invade one of her Latin classes. Mr. Fisler is keeping his eye on the girls in his English class. Looking into the office early in the morning, we find our teachers arriving for a hard day! (10) Informative Instructing students in radio- speech is Miss Kaumheimer, attractive new addition to our faculty. Popular Miss McDermet, more familiarly known as Miss Mac, is speaking with Elaine Jolly and Betty Dell in the newly furnished girls ' con- ference room on the first floor. It looks as if Mr. Hartman ' s son Dickie is giving our cheer leaders a few pointers. (11) Pouring at the Christmas tea held in the cafeteria are the Misses Mary and Bessie Carpenter, while well-known faculty members may be seen in the background. We wonder if Mr. Forsman is discussing the party with Miss Hiller, or if he ' s telling her the latest moron joke. (12) u biauitoud are the Ulnderclc 9 addmen (13) We Sophs in Geometry Beverly Ruffatto is interested in Lewis Noell ' s explanation of a geometry problem. Biology These students in Mrs. Buckley ' s biology class are examining specimens, and discovering new worlds through microscopes. Latin Latin pupils Bob Jones, Ronald Richmond, Eleanor Summers, and Kathleen Wheeler look pleased with their copies of Epistolae Scholae. (14) Our Classes Commercial Geography The maps and charts in Miss Gaylord ' s commercial geography class are being closely studied by Norma Johnson, Alice Cave, Michael Keith, June Callahan, Margaret Ballaert, and Ed Bryant. Foods Giving some eggs a terrific beating in the cooking room are Murlene Spencer, Rose Mary Hall, and Ezma Hughlet. Drafting Alone at his desk, Bill Nique seems to be rather puzzled by a drafting problem. (15) ■i§ 0 £j ♦ ' i r - , , ...... «JP % Q y? If you have ever seen any of the advanced swimming girls on the board you would know ' what I mean. Here Kathryn Demp- sey is doing a graceful swan dive that would put many boys to shame. The girls have learned most of this from the new swimming teacher, Miss Davidson. ISeptunes The new swimming club reorganized under the leadership of Miss Davidson is one of the most talked about subjects of the girls around here. The girls learn -water playlets such as Little Red Riding Hood, a shipwrecked pirate crew and many others. Nearly all girls hope to get in this club some day. (72) If you ■want to learn a few points on swimming and div- ing just ask a few of the fol- lowing girls: Jean Hatfield, Virginia Dawe, Jean Mc- Kinstry, Shirley Zimmerman, Priscilla J. Scott, Kathryn Dempsey, Barbara Reynolds, Eileen Fay, and Mae Finch. Stella Bachalukas and Helen Hatfield are standing in back. They have been taught how to do the jack knife, swan dive, half and full twist, one and one half gainer, back jack and many others. Daughters No they aren ' t mermaids, just one of Miss Davidson ' s swimming classes. Old Neptune him- self couldn ' t be more proud of these beauties than are the members of dear old Pontiac high. Lined up along the edge of the pool these girls are waiting further instructions. (73) QirVs Sports Under the capable instruction of Miss Waterman and Miss Davidson the girl ' s gym classes have been very busy in their physical fitness program. The girls began their semester work with volleyball and through the season they were active in calisthenics, squad work, baseball, target practice, basketball, tap, square, and folk dancing. Previously the course has been very beneficial to girls who are now entering the armed services of our country and continues along the same lines in helping to prepare the girls for the future.
