It is that soothing voice, that comfortable embrace, that warm glance. Fiery is the passion that keeps us alive today, henceforth, and beyond. Shall we see or possibly challenge what is here and what is not? The same light that awakens us is the same light that puts us to sleep. Built to last through coldness, through heat, through solitude, through mar, we're just the same. We are all just the same today, henceforth, and beyond. The excitement builds as each performance is completed. The student body sits in the bleachers as the band, cheerleaders, pom pon squad and vocalists perform, ea- gerly waiting as the moment draws closer. Electrifying screams of joy fill the air as the crowd catches its first glimpse of the court and King and Queen, royally attired in their Homecoming regalia. This is only the beginning of beautiful memories that will last a life time. The Pontiac Northern staff and students salute Mrs. Taborn, Mrs. McGhee, and their committee for all of their hard work and effort. fl J Fernando Vega poses proudly as the new King. 122 Queen Cewanda Bell curtsies to her screaming Huskie audience. It is the year when all important decisions are made. WhaH college am I going to? Do I have the grade point average in order to be accepted? Can my parents and I afford it? Were my ACTor3 SAT scores high enough? Spring and Seniors go hand in hand. just as spring is a time rebirth for growing things, so are we as Seniors in a rebirth phase our lives. We are about to make the transition from dependent school students, to independent young adults. As Seniors we rely on the knowledge we have accumulated to help us blossom adults. Each of us has a treasure chest of memories. As the years go we can look back on these memories that the yearbook staff has tried to capture in this year's Avalanche. Much hard work was put forth to make this yearbook the best possible. We, the editors, would like to thank those who gave of their time. First, we thank the staff members for the many hours of work that they gave. We also thank Mrs. Carol Grandberry for her delicious food on those ' 'marathon sessions. The staff would not have survived without it. Thanks also to the student body for supporting our school and purchasing a yearbook. We saved the best for last. For the first time in the history of our school, the yearbook has a new adviser, Ms. Ioan ne Battle. We especially thank her. She made it through this first year, almost without scars. Hopefully, this will not be her last year. Don't forget that your knowledge will be needed and appreciated next year. While we rejoice about the happy times, we will also remember this year as a time of sadness because we lost two of our students - Karen Potlow and Evette Bronner. They will be dearly missed. The many memories - good and bad - have been captured as best we could. We hope that you will treasure and enjoy this yearbook. In the opening year of Pontiac in 1958, Mr. Kerguson became a teacher in the business department. Even though he knew very little about Northern or how to produce a yearbook, he became Northern 's first yearbook adviser. With the help of the publisher and the staff, he had a successful first year, putting to bed the 1958 issue of the yearbook, which he named The Avalanche. As the years went by, he and his staffs produced top quality books. Through the years, his artistic abilities showed more and more as each book went to press. Even with hard times such as the millage failures and a major heart attack, he came through. Despite these and other difficulties and taking a year off, Mr. Ferguson renzained dedicated to producing the Avalanche. In 1986, the Avalanche was left with no adviser, and once again, he stepped in. Even though he was told to stay away from stressful situations, he decided to produce one more yearbook because this would also be the year that he would retire. We take this opportunity to thank him for his many years of loyal service. We further wish him a very happy and restful retirement. Mr. Ferguson, see how many of these pictures you remember. 612 This was taken during the very early years. 121 In this photo, Mr. Ferguson and the yearbook staff decided to be creative for their yearbook pictures. He isn't really holding up that build- ing. !3l This last picture shows that Mr. Ferguson was still hard at work, even the year that he retired. l l. GMCTRUCK Graduation As I leave this place, I'd like to say a few things before I go. In my heart, there is a space, Which this school touched so. It was here, where boys entered my list, It was here, where I had my first kiss. So much has happened the last four years, That words can't express how much I will miss it here. It was here, where I've learned to be myself, Not to act or pretend to be anyone else. I've learned to accept challenges and to achieve, I've learned to accept what I receive. It was here, where I've made truly great friends, Whom, I know, will always be till the end. It was here, I had the best of times, The great memories will always shine in my mind. It was here, where a better person I have become. I know I will look back someday, And say . . . It was here, that I've learned to take life on. Diana T. As always, our students, athletes and coaches are very pleased to have you attend our games. Though we do not always have the winning seasons that we would like to have, we are successful in many ways. The citizens of Pontiac should be very proud of our program, for the things that our student-athletes learn will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Discipline, dedication, and a winning attitude can never be learned better than by competing in interscholastic athletics. We are particularly proud of the fact that we are capable of offering twenty-six C263 teams for stu- dent participation. Perhaps the most important objective of the athletic department is to increase the amount of participation of students in our program. We also encourage greater participation by the faculty, parents, and the community. Athletic Director Ass't Athletic Director Tarlton R.
