Television, being what it is, also took the opposite side. Sports were just as important. The place was chosen, the teams were narrowed, the bets were placed and the game was played. There were parties, practices, and populations that the T. V. crews from across the nation captured. Within hours, history was made in Pontiac as the San Francisco forty-niners defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, in the 16th national Super Bowl. The city, the people, even their spirit came alive, from Burbon Street North, the action place down town, to our very own Super Silver Dome . Pontiac, for a brief week, was widely talked about. It was quite an experience. The Super Bowl boosted the city's moral, and made it a bit prouder of what it Ls. Still it can't be forgotten that Pontiac has had its problems. Problems that will remain in the minds of many students, especially seniors. The year started with no sports, no activities, and no library. It was felt from grades K-12 as funds cut books, paper, and other necessary supplies. Teaching had taken a giant step backward. There were no projectors to be watched, and no tape recorders to be listened to. Teachers couldn't assign any type of research due to closed libraries. Still, school went on. Northern's students were in an uproar. With a top grade basketball team, and a super wrestling team, not to mention the six valedictorians just the year before, how could this happen? Well it did happen, but not without a fight!! Northern's faculty, student body, and a few coaches assembled at the board meeting with 900 signatures pleading for sports, and a library. Both were denied. To prove we were still strong, Northern held their annual Homecoming. There were no floats, no parties, not even a regular game. Still we had to show we were brave. We put on our Homecoming in a unique way. The clases challenged each other in various games including football. Spirit was at an all time high. Over 314 ofthe school participated in the traditional spirit week. Then came thatactual day when the King and Queen were crowned. For one short hour Northern was happy. Still the worst was still to come, Reality soon made its come back. In full force. v,, , it

With this you ww, couldput the movie theatre right in your own set. For25 dollars a month one could see sports. concerts. and a show. sitting on the couch. It was really a life saver. It makes it convenient so that one eould stay at home on a sleepy night. and get away with half the price of all the goodies. Yet regular ol' T.V. still came through. With shows like Jlaqnum P.l.. Hart to Hart. and Jl.A.S.H. home entertainment was still a favorite. Many times this was the only sou ree of entertainment. But television has its great ' times. Times when excitement was at its peak. One sueh time was when Luke and Laura were wed on General Hospital. This soap had millions of viewers rejoicing, and quite a few crying.

This was why there were so many outs, and the biggest was yet to come. Schools would close on De- cember 9th. This di.fn't set right at all. Sports. and LiLn rry's were just ext'ra's, nice extra's. But they needed school, just like we ner-ded school. This took more than ust a fight, this tool: team work. Many of dediccfed teachers. and stu- dents united with the city board to help pass the millage.
