Gone are the sophomore iitters, the iunior frustrations. Now, as seniors, they have reached the culmination of many of their dreams. What lies ahead for them - marriage, college, industry, the Armed Forces - is their choice to make. Whatever that choice may be, memories of friends, fac- ulty and activities will remain with them from the days they have left behind. What they have known at Northern is not a passing thing, it is an intangible collaboration of knowledge, interest, de- sire and activity. It is a milestone, a dir- ective. ' ' 'FJ' M' , 4 I J.- Change, stimulated by factors of growth, philosophy, culture and research, is the end-product of every stu- dent who passes successfully through our corriders and our classrooms. The formation of the individual, the expansion of knowledge, the subtle deepening of the human mind - these are the interrelated results of an unrecognized, unapplauded faculty effort. It is behind the scenes of ordinary classroom experience that the most significant change and growth are evident. A vague philosophy earnestly interpreted to a won- dering teacher late after class raises a student from the level of mass conformity to the honored level of adult responsibility. An exciting equation, explored through experimentation in o deserted lab in the early pre-school hours, achieves an intangible student-teoch- er relationship that surpasses the mediocrity of day-to- day contact, and achieves, for both studentand teacher, an unlimited source of admiration and respect. Each student takes an im- measurable amount of pride and feels the happy satisfaction of accomplishment when he views something of his own creation. Whether this creation be a picture, a dress, a sculpture, or even a layer cake makes no difference, the sense of creating will still manifest itself. To induce our hidden talents to the surface, is the task of the homemaking and art departments. Ralph Grubb Roger Shepler Dean Wilson To be or not to be a good defensive driver: that is the important and vital question at hand as beginn- ing drivers take on the responsibility of earning a driver's license. The Driver Education teachers play one of the most important roles in education at Northern. They must make each student realize that he has taken on a great responsibility and teach him how to handle this responsibility. Road signs, laws, parking procedures, and general road courtesies are taught in the classroom. This knowl- edge is then applied as the potential driver prac- tices on the driving range. After completing the educational requirements at school, a student may obtain a permit or license and may ioin the ranks ot America's drivers. 5 at 1 JV' --.414 vi '79 DRIVER EDUCATION Z.. ,-za. -I L ' 1' 7 I ea , , . They have undertaken the large task of rewriting and re-evaluating the Student Constitution, mainly through the efforts of the Student Advisory Board, and have already improved many of the practices and traditions of the school. Some of these changes included a new way of electing the Homecoming Court, a Senior Christmas Dance - a social first at Northern, earlier elec- tion of Senior officers, promotion of plans for o new Senior lounge, and bigger, better plans for a successful Senior Prom. These improvements are indications of the new attitudes toward the importance of school spirit and partici- pation formed by excellent student leaders and a co-oper- ative facdlty. THEY CONTRIBUTE... Friendship can be evidenced everywhere -from early childhood playmates to the lasting friendship of a lifelong companion. Many of these friends are made during the high school years. The value of friendship is greatand immeasurable. lt is happi- ness, sadness, help, and comfort. Afriendis a companion, some- one with which to share ioys and sorrows, hopes and dreams. A friend is someone to go to the games with, someone to ear lunch with, someone with whom to attend the dances and the Proms. But most of all, a friend is that rare person who will stick with you, not only during fun and happiness, but through the troubles of life's realities. This year Pontiac Northern has had three foreign students studying at Northern. A few of their comments about Northern are: Adele Giminez - The Pontiac Northern High School is wonderful. Its teachers, students, all in general permitted that l lived the best of my experience, and that I take away to my Argentina a good re- membrance of Pontiac and its Pontiac Northern High School. Lucia Rain - Pontiac Northern has been a great experience for me. I don't thinkl will ever have another opportunity to study in a foreign country like this. I really appreciate it. Monika Wazlawczyk - It is a real valuable experi- ence for me to be a part of Pontiac Northern High School and I will tell how many things l never would have learned otherwise. W M Do nal d' Q 810 North Perry Throughout the kaleidescope of sporting events at Northern, we have caught, momentarily, fleeting glimpses of something we hadn't realized before. We have seen things we didn't know existed, and have wondered at their obscurity. We have seen our team in the mud and rain, inthe snowand sunshine, we have seen them fight proudly, determindly, fiercly, to hold an honor that they won long ago. They are the em- bodiment of what we are, what they achieve for us represents what we are capable of achieving for our- selves. The sweat and effort poured out relentless in the grueling demand of daily practice, is what it is that has made them great, and subsequently, made us alive.
