This year's Ponce baseball Team, under new l-lead Coach JeTT WesT, should be one oT The powers in SouTh Florida baseball. Many members oT lasT years squad are reTurning To bolsTer The Cav diamond TorTunes. The sTarTing lineup should run some- Thing like This: CaTcher-Ray Fhlyg PiTcher-Buddy Fisher or Joe Fscriabano, supporTed by Al l-larum, Phil Jochem, Burke l.uTich and Bill Grayp FirsT base-Jerry Bishop! Second base-Jim l-larTneTT or Leonard MarTiny ShorTsTop-Larry Kilbrideg Third base-Jimmy Welch: OuTTielders-AnTon Brice, Norman PrevaTTe, Ed Walker, and Fisher when he's noT piTching. ThaT Team, oT course, is purely guesswork, because anyone oT many prospecTs may break inTo The lineup, such as: CaTcher Bing Siebold, InTielder Wayne Moore, FirsT sacker Donn Mann, ShorTsTops Bill SmiTh or Dick l-lardeman, PiTchers Bob Miller, B. Gray, or Ronnie l-lendry, CaTcher Jim l-leaTon, and many oThers. l.asT year's Team did noT live up To expecTaTions, and even Bernie BarneTT, an All-CiTy choice The year beTore, did noT repeaT ThaT honor: however, Buddy Fisher, Ponce's ace curveball piTch- er considered The besT prep prospecT To come ouT SouTh Florida in some Time, and Angelo lvlandis, relieT piTcher and regular shorTsTop, made The All-CiTy Team. PracTice Tor The horsehide and hickory boys opened on March l, wiTh a large number oT pros- pecTs Trying ouT.

Miles FaTon and Bob FeaThersTone will again hold down Their posiTions as mana- gers, groundskeeper SmiTh has again done a Tine iob wiTh The Tield, and larger aTTen- dance is expecTed again This year, as crowds were bigger lasT year Than in previous seasons, so maybe The problem oT small aTTendance aT The home baseball games is solved. A TransTer Trom Bolles Academy in Jacksonville, Fd Fscribano, has showed promise in early workouTs oT developing inTo a very Tine addiTion To The piTching sTaTT, which is comprised, as we said, oT Bud Fisher, aT The presenT and only Bud Fisher. Al l-larum, now a Sophomore, played in several games Tor The varsiTy lasT year, buf Tailed To be eTTecTive because oT The obvious Tension placed on him, being a Treshman, one oT The Tew To ever play on Poncels varsiTyg buT, Al has been working hard on conTrol, and iT he comes Through, The pifching sTaTT This year will look like Those oT old here aT Ponce, meaning, oT course, Minnick, Conrad, Fisher, Day and SmeThursT. Phil Jochem showed Tremendous speed lasT year, buT lacked in ThaT all imporTanT gualiTy, conTrol. We Think ThaT This year's Team will really be someThing To brag abouT. I6-sgqnmsw. PicTured on opposiTe page: Buddy Fisher leTs one Tly in pracTice. Middle picTure: Fisher Takes a cuT aT The ball as CaTcher Bing Seibold goes down Tor The ball ThaT is noT There, buT probably in leTT Tield.
