E 1969-70 was the second year for the Great 1 Books and Ideas course in the Social Studies De- partment. This class emphasizes ideas in all so- cieties such as the idea of family life in various eras. There were two new teachers in the Social Studies Department this year. Mr. Snell taught for one semester two years ago and was then drafted. Mr. Smith, formerly a teacher at Eastjunior High School, taught American History. Other courses taught in the Social Studies De- partment were World History, Current Interna- tional Problems, Problems of Democracy, Psy- chology, Sociology, Government Economics, and World Geography. Science Courses Prepare Students for College To many students at PO-HI, the Science Department was the most im- portant during the past year, The major- ity of students who have planned col- lege in their futures found that the science courses such as Chemistry, Ad- vanced Biology, Physiology, and Zoolo- gy were a great help to them. Physiology and Zoology, taught by Mr. jantz, were new courses in the Science Department this year. The be- ginning enrollment for these compan- ion courses was seventy-four students.
