Shakespeare comes into the lives of Sophomores as they study Julius if Caesar. They travel on to Hamlet as Juniors, and finish their high school careers with Macbeth. Composition and grammar are also presented in detail during these three years. Three new energetic instructors be- gan at PO-HI this year. Mrs. Jean Faulconer became sponsor of the Poncan. She also taught Junior Eng- lish and Journalism. Mrs. Sarah Baird and Mrs. Kathleen Housh instructed classes in Sophomore English. New Social Studies Course Added for Seniors Great Books and Ideas taught by Mr. Carl Flippin, was a new senior social studies course initiated this year. Students were required to read twenty books during the year. This was a college preparatory course, and the students became familiar with some of the pressures and responsi- bilities of a higher education. Social studies courses to acquaint the students with the past and how it affects the present and future are World History, American History, and World Geography. Current International Problems, Problems of Democracy, Government, Economics, Psychology, and Sociology are modern courses used to teach the student how to live in the modern world as mature adults.
