This is Ponca City Senior High School! Seniors-this is your last year. You glory in the honor of being uhigh man on the totem polegw you fondly remember the first two years on Mthe Hill, you strive to make 1962-1963 the best school year yet, you love Po-l-li and leave her. Juniors-this is your middle year. You laugh at your fears of last year, you look forward to the height of next year, you are at the center of your high school education, you have the opportunity to stop, see where you stand, and change if you so wish. Prepare well, for soon you will be the senior leaders on the campus. Sophomores-this is your first year. You have vast opportunities and challenges lying ahead of you, you are in Po-Hi and by now you are very much a part of her, you belong here, you have two years left-use them well. Hands, denoting uwhat goes on at Po-1-1i,', have been used on the cover of the 1963 Cat Tale. These hands represent what we are doing. ln scholarship we rank among the top schools in Okla- homa. A wide choice in fine arts ranging from instrumental and vocal music to painting and crafts is offered at P.C.H.S. We offer a well-rounded program of athletics where we have also proved to be outstanding. ln our organizations and clubs we learn many things which widen our fields of interest. Our social activities offer a wholesome diversion from the class room in the form of parties, dances, picnics, and, of course, the Prom. Last and certainly one of the most important phases of our high school days is the life-long friendships we make here at Po-Hi. Fully realizing that each person here had a hand in making this year one of the best yet, we, the annual staff, dedicate this book to you and beckon you to join us as we go hand in hand through the pages of the 1963 CAT TALE. Today, October the Third, als I Write this message for the CAT TALE, Astronaut Walter M. Schirra has made a safe landing in the Pacific Ocean after completing his sixth orbit of the earth. His feat is only the most recent of the many modern miracles which we have come to expect as a nomial part of living in the Year of our Lord 1962. Today's achievements far ex- ceed the vivid imaginations of the science fiction writers of a few years ago. We are so accustomed to think in terms of enormous size, fantastic speed, billions of dollars, and millions of light years that we are inclined to overlook the importance of those traits, at- MISS CAROLYN BAGBY E n g l i s h Department Chairmang English 123 English Il PRINCIPAL HOMER S. ANDERSON tributes, and qualities that can- not be measured quantitative- ly. Other events that share the headlines with Astronaut Schirra's fine achievement in- dicate all too clearly that Whereas man is fast learning the ability to live in space, he has yet to learn to live in har- mony with his fellow man. How appropriate for these times are the Words of Stephen Vincent Benet: Our earth is but a small star in the great universe. Yet of it we can make, if We choose, a planet unvexed by war, untroubled by hunger or fear, undivided by 'senseless distinctions of race. color or theory. MRS.
