By word and by picture .the achievements and activities of another year are recorded here. Those who prepared this book are to be congratulated for the originality and fidelity with which they have portrayed the 'ghappenings on the hill. But the excellence and worth of a yearbook do not depend entire- ly upon the skill of the staff. Since this CAT TALE reflects PRINCIPAL HOMER S. ANDERSON Po-Hi Faculty the spirit of the school, every student had a part in its prepara- tion. As you turn these pages may your pleasure be increased through the knowledge that your contribution to Ponca City Sen- ior High School was all that it should be-that you did ahelp in all her undertakings and thus made her a stronger and no- blerv school. Director of Student Activities MISS LILLIAN SHUSTER '6What is school spiritf' Perhaps it is everything connected with school life-the build- ings and the spacious campus, the American Flag against a blue sky, the War Memorial with a wreath beneath the Gold Star names, the student council in session, a group planning a skit for the Panic, early morning buses bringing students to school, seniors lining up for commencement-perhaps school spirit is all these things . . . Perhaps it is. Perhaps it also includes the love of these things, the spark that makes them go, the fun and fellowship, the challenge of class discussion. the desire to achieve, the hopes and the disappointments. School spirit-a thing to be felt, not seen, to be cherished. to be enriched-caught, ref tained, rememberedf, Miss Lillian Shuster, Director of Student Activities, wrote these words about Po-Hi. They have truly been and continue to be the philosophy of her life. Giving of her time and ideas unselfishly, she helped pioneer the homeroom movement and the organization of student councils in Oklahoma. She served as Executive Secretary for the state of Oklahoma in the National Association of Student Councils and sponsored the Oklahoma delegation at the na- tional convention. At Po-Hi Miss Shuster helps with almost every activity the school undertakes-the CAT TALE, the PONCAN, the school clubs, the Pon-Dram Panic, and many others. Her super- vision and editing of the Kat-Keys, the student directories, and the commencement programs make them publications of which we can be proud. We owe the rituals of the initiation of Citizens of the Month and the installation of student officers to her originality and in- terest in Po-Hi. I can't are two words Miss Shuster never uses. As a big sister to every faculty mem- ber and student at Po-Hi, Miss Shuster epitomizes selflessness. Her serenity and patience are an example to all who come in contact with her. We at Po-Hi can never express how much Miss Shuster means to us and to the school. We feel that Miss Shuster is truly uthe spirit of Ponca City Senior High 'Schoolf' Page 1 1
