Page 8 a kaleidoscope of colors and people and places and memories a kaleidoscope of colorful ingredients and characters bits and snatches of almost memories and half forgotten names of your class- mates shifting changing people who leave and come and go and people you never meet and some you'll never forget even after this is po-hi perhaps a part of it only things we remember the new lounge and building and people rehearsing for a play and smells from the cafeteria the poncan the student body praying in assembly the magazine sale prom clubs the victory flag new teachers in the classroom new faces new plans new ideas suddenly old and used and accustomed unexpectedly only pieces of it only snatches that we remember lectures to lis- ten to classes to go to people to meet problems to suffer papers to worry over and crises to solve new fads the school colors class rings the panic grades grades grades and what else was here but these things and we came to po-hi new to it all and pushed our ideas and our ways and ourselves into the pattern and turned it and moved it sometimes with joy and cheers or grief or worry and it twisted at our touch and a pattern emerged and it was the same after all but different than the years before and hard to hold onto or show someone else as it changed all the time even as we touched it and held it in our hands like the strings of the world in our hands it changed that was po-hi and to it we dedicate this our yearbook to the po-hi that was and the po-hi that is ours to the po-hi that is yet to come whose face we do not know to the po-hi that we have disliked and the po-hi we have loved alternately despairingly continually to its prob- lems and its changes to its difficulties and its inspirations to its past and its present and its unknown future we the staff dedicate the 1962
