N With the theme of Meet Me in St. Louie, Louie, the mixed chorus, composed of the fifth hour girls and boys'glee clubs, started the year with a song in its heart. For, it was in October that they received the invitation to give a concert in St. Louis on April 14 for the Music Educators' National Conference. They were also invited to serve as the clinic demonstration group for the Commission on Standards of Literature and Performance. Preparations for this big event took the place of the annual operetta, but the many fine soloists were heard on other occasions, such as the an- nual Christmas assembly. Other vocal highlights of the year for the glee clubs and ensembles were the student council conven- tion, many civic clubs' programs, Pon-Dram Panic, Thanksgiving Harvest of Music, and Tri-State Music Festival. None were more enthusiastic than the sopho- more girls'glee club, which received recognition in various papers of Oklahoma and Kansas for their porchlight Christmas concerts for the invalids and shut-ins of Ponca City. The uniform of the band is to be worn with dignity for it is indicative of loyalty, time, and labor, pride of accomplishments and honor well deserved. At every football game the, Big Blue joins forces with the Dynamiters to promote school spirit, offer encourage- ment to the team, and provide half-time ceremonies. An exuberance of enthusiasm filled the halls, f x ' As a new crop of sophomores ventured inside. W 1 136- As ninth grader upperclassmcn in Junior High These students had reigned with a regal mien. Now, alas, up the ladder they must climb again Commencing as sophomores green. Like wayfarers in an unknown land, They tread the halls with a wary step. Winning approval from one and all, With their fortitude, spirit and pep. In assembly they behaved with decorum, Each occupying a balcony chair, With an attitude of respectful attention, That was a pleasure to witness and share.
