The CAT TALE of i945 is rightfully dedi- cated to the sons and daughters of Ponca High who are in the Armed Forces. Their achievements as students are recorded in the files of the school and in the PONCANS and CAT TALES of bygone years. Their achievements while in the Service of their Country are written in sweat and blood on the beaches of Normandy and Tarawa, above Tokyo and Berlin, on the decks of cruiser and car- rier, and in tank and submarine. To them, and to all who have held high the torch of Liberty, we owe a debt that can be paid only by sacrifices of our own. We must prepare ourselves to con- tinue their gallant fight. Should their hands fal- ter, we must be ready to grasp the torch. And as citizens in tomorrow's world we must do all that is within our power to see that their sacrifices have not been in vain but that liberty and jus- tice and peace prevail. War years have made us realize keenly the influence of our High School on the lives of our former students. One of them has written that, wrapped in clouds above the dangerous Himalayas, he leads his bomber crew in worship just as he led his classmates in devotion during assembly hour. Another has sent poems written in foxholes at Guadalcanal and Saipan and has asked for his former teacher's comments on them, adding that even a foxhole is more comfortable when shared with a poem or two. An army nurse has told of her efforts to keep her friends laughing even in the face of death, just as once she impishly at- tracted the attention of her classmates from their lessons to some antic of hers. Certainly the de- fense of decency demands a various background. Our present students are thoughtfully aware of their own ports in the perpetuation of culture and progress and ideals that are stronger than self. The pages of this book will in part portray the work, the play, the laughter, and the spirit which the High School fosters in anticipation ofthe roles our students will play in the preservation of the dignity and joy of human life. PRINCE P0-HI Bob Nvoolley PRINCESS P0-HI djllie CLUJJL new jeleuwlon With the interests of our national government occupying the fore- rnost portions of their minds, the staff of Radio Station WKY of Oklahoma City proposed a series of television shows to be held in various cities of Oklahoma for the purpose of furthering the sales of United States War Bonds. lt was our good fortune that Ponca City was on their list of prospective performances, their good fortune that the people of Ponca City were so eager to respond. In their early correspondence it was suggested that a Television Queen be selected to reign over this program, The task of choos- ing candidates was given the local high school, which replied with a list of three comely lasses, one from each of the three classes rep- resented. Admittance to the show was ac- quired through the purchase of a 525.00 War Bond, which also served as a means of securing a ballot upon which the purchaser's choice for Television Queen was checked. Needless to say, Ann Willson, the candidate of the Jun- ior Class, won. Fanfare, if you please. Afaf' f- I I fX ,fi if if 'ii 7,9 'gf ff' 1 -,Y-dr 4 1 Q5 4? V.
