UH JH Silmif m' PIONEER STAFF The remarkable cooperation among members of the Pioneer Staff and the unfaltering guidance of Mrs. Kivet, our adviser, have done much to make this book a success. The 1949 Pioneer, we feel, is a distinctive yearbook, and we are proud of the finished product. This year we have tried to carry out the theme in the book itself with more articles, art work, and pages. Typists have set new records for speed and efficiency, The art staff has brought new arrangements, and many copies were sold by collectors and the sponsor committee. Everyone worked hard and deserves a lot of credit. l-'irst nm, lift to right' Nlaxii- l':isiIl:i. firnci' Tlioliu, PM Teeling, 'fwiiixvig lfitiiy-bill. Hrs. The Pompton Lakes High School Band has always been one of Pompton High's greatest assets. The band has grown consistently through the years under the excellent direction of Mr. Theodore Palmer. He has worked most industriously to achieve the perfection which the band now boasts. The first project of the hand was to entertain at the football games. Much time was spent on marching, but the effort was well rewarded by the response given to its intricate formations and the playing of On. Ob Pomptorz. The band again played in the Band Festival at Passaic Stadium. The display given by each band was concluded by the entire group playing a march under Percy Faith, guest conductor. Each director received a letter containing constructive criticism from the judges. After the fall activities, the band concentrated on preparing for two concerts-one in February, the other in May. At these concerts, different music was presented to please every taste. The officers of the band were George Florance, presidentg Lois Christ- mann, secretaryg and Dorothy Cort, treasurer. The band members chose these people for their leadership and dependability. In order to earn a band letter, each member must have good attendance, a helpful attitude, and musical ability. Letters are awarded on Red-Letter-Day. The climax of the musical season was reached when the band played for the Commencement Exercises. The past record of the band has been an inspiration to its members and should be an incentive for others. Through their original ideas, they are pioneering by setting the pace for those who will follow in their footsteps. x - x X Iayce Wbritcnour, bud majorzttz.
