Likewise would you think it necessary to live behind the Iron Curtain to ascertain the evils of Communism? Your answer to all these questions would be, “No, I have seen people burned by fire, killed by fall- ing, and injured by automobiles. I have also encountered the brainwashed, impoverished, and emaciated escapees from Communist dominated countries.” You will, I am sure, agree that knowledge is acquired by accepting well established facts as well as firsthand testing. Furthermore, there are some things in this life we do not have to prove but which we accept by faith. Emily Dickinson has well expressed my sentiments in the following short poem: I never say a moor, I never saw the sea; Yet know I how the heather looks, And what a wave must be. I never spoke with God, Nor visited in heaven; Yet certain am I of the spot As if the chart were given. Your friend, Larry I. Walden Charles O. Carlise, former Dean of Boys, now Assistant Prin- cipal, has not relinquished his close contact with PBSHS stu- dents and their activities. He still appears on campus, and elsewhere, often causing a chuckle or two with his gruff hu- mor. Most of us at Pompano feel that things just would not be the same without him. Senior Class Officers Have Sailed A Straight Course As we, the Senior Class of 1962, cast a backward glance upon our experi- ences of the past three years, we realize that they have indeed been worthwhile. As Sophomores we were bewildered and frightened by the maze of corridors and the throng of unfamiliar faces. Nevertheless it did not take us long to JUDY KUC enter into the active life at P. B. S. H. S. With all the zeal and enthusiasm President typical of those beginning a new adventure, we supported successfully such activities as the candy sale and the first Sophomore Prom. BETSY SANDSTROM The Junior year was really a preparatory year, for we were constantly busy with school work and extracurricular activities. We found ourselves looking forward to our big year—the year when we ourselves would set the tone and pattern for life at our school. Special events for our Junior year were the class JUDY JACKSON play, the magazine drive and the Junior-Senior Prom. Secretary Today we are Seniors, the doers, not the onlookers, the leaders, not the followers. A smile crosses our faces as we recall the Senior play, “Majority of BOBBIE GRAY One,” the Senior Tea, our many Senior privileges and the fun at the prom sternly, we remember applications for college and scholarships, and the intense studying for college boards. Now it is all over, the doors of Pompano are closing behind us, pushing us out to the great, wide world. We are pre- pared now to go our different directions taking with us the untarnished memories of Pompano Beach Senior High.
