Men were both fascinated and repelled by its tropical beauty and luxuriant growth. Modern pioneers have changed much of Al’s original Everglades homeland. The beauty and mystery remain, but there are also rich cultivated acres. The theme of the 1958 Beanpicker is the Everglades — its beauty, its mystery, its vastness, and the wealth awaiting the men who cultivate its resources. Ob lestlss PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE MR. LARRY I. WALDEN As you the Class of ’58 go out to take your places in our great nation, may you always remember: Many graduates are good starters but poor finishers. The streets are full of graduates who started out well but fell by the wayside for some reason. You are further reminded that cities are built by the few who do not fall by the wayside; the rest live in them. Railroads are projected by few; the rest ride on them. Skyscrapers and factories are erected by few; the rest toil in them. Whether you take the place of a leader or a follower in our complex society, you must always be true to yourself, your fellow man, your country, and your Creator. Your friend, omy? Vall Larry I. Walden DEDICATION MISS MARLENE LENZ “Her voice was ever soft, Gentle, and low, an excellent thing in woman.” An unfailing courtesy and dedicated purpose mark her teaching a nd thereby enrich the lives of those with whom she comes in contact. For her friendly concern with the individual student, for her unfailing interest in the activities of the student body as a whole, for enlightened loyalty to the cause of education, we, the 1958 Beanpicker Staff, proudly dedicate our edition of the BEANPICKER to Miss Marlene Lenz. This organization is one in which boys may obtain practical business experience, act as their own instructors, and enjoy the fellowship of one another.
