We leave blue grass and green forests . . . but now we have the sands of Florida in our shoes . . . We are held forever by the warmth and friendliness of this Land of Flowers . . . The theme of the 1957 Beanpicker is . . . Sand in Your Shoes. Mr. Larry I. Walden Principal of Pompano Beach High School . oo ho To the Beanpicker staff . . . Tomorrow is the today of yesterday. The 1957 Beanpicker has arrived at Pompano Beach High School. Many memories of yesterday have been captured for years to come. May I commend you for this fine publication. As we go through life let us remember MAH the world is a stagef' and we are the players thereon. Let us pattern our lives after the stars and not the moon. The stars give off light while the moon reflects it. The life that lights the way for us to see how to walk through the journey of life is of more Value than a mere reflector. Always your friend, Larry I. Walden Mr. Dexter Hag To a teacher . . . Some wise man has said: A teacher affects eternity, he can never tell where his influence stops. The influence of Mr. Hagman is both far-reach- ing and beneficent. His quiet, unassuming manner and cheerful efficiency have won him a place in the affections of both the student body and the faculty. It is with pleasure, therefore, that we dedicate the 1957 BEANPICKER to Mr. Dexter Hagman, teacher, leader, friend. To paraphrase Chaucer, Gladly would he teach, and gladly would we learn. Sincerely, The Staff I 5 , N,-N .QW 45 x.,,?, MISS MARJORIE SOLTHERN We remember MISS SOUTHERN As our friend and advisor . . . Never too busy to hear our problems Always understanding and helping us solve them . . . Understanding us better than we under- stand ourselves . . . Treating us as young men and womf n Frank. honest, helpful and sincere Our Deans We rfwzerrzbzfr MR. CARl,lSl.E As our counselor and guide . . . Always friendly and considerate of our interests . . . llisciplining with firmness and patience . . . Dispensing wisdom and encouragement Ever calm, witty, available to help us solve our problems. The school and the community are justly proud of their high school band which has risen in just five years of contest competition to a place among the top bands of Florida. Last Nlay. the Pompano Beach High School Senior Band was adjudged Superior at the State Contest in St. Petersburg after they had competed in concert. sight reading. and marching events. This highest rating was a fit climax to the steady growth in quality and quantity which the band has experienced. Many individual band students also won honors at the State Contest and Pompano Beach recorded the highest number of Superior-rated student conductors and the second highest number of Superior-rated solos and ensembles in the state. This year. the band is busily preparing for their entry into the District Contest at Pompano Beach and the State Contest at West Palm Beach. The Senior Band is a closely-knit organization which works year-around at rehearsals and public appearances. This year. the band has thrilled football audiences with their precision drilling and popular half-time show themes. SE IOR HIGH BA D 1957 First row: R. Trumbull. R. David. C. Dawson. Xl. Roberson.
