HO OR SOCIETY The National Honor Society chapter at Pomona is open for membership to juniors and seniors. According to its constitution, the object of NHS is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service. to promote worthy leadership and to encourage the development of character in all of Pomona 's students. Students meet the initial eligibility requirements for joining NHS when they achieve a grade point average of 3.4. Then they complete application forms that include recommendations. Teachers also respond to these candidates. Once students fulHll all of the requirements for admission they are welcomed into NHS through a formal induction ceremony. NHS meets regularly at school to plan activities that are both service-oriented and social. Projects applicable to the school and to Sponsors. Kim Natale and carhefme Hawley. the neighboring community are popular and social events include such happenings as picnics and skiing.

Dan Cunningham, Da vid Rhoads, Katherine Fields, Leonard DEBATE FORENSICS Vasquez. lf we cannot dazzle them with brilliance we baffle them with bull! This years debate squad consisted of 4 advanced students and 9 novice students. The team competed at I5 tournaments as well as hosted two of their own. The topic for the year was Resolved that the Federal Government should initiate and enforce safety guarantees on consumer goods. All of the debaters spent grueling hours researching, typing, practicing, and listening to lectures on debate theory. But the hard work paid off in the end as the trophies started pouring ln. GIRLS FCA The Girls Fellowship of Christian Athletes IFCAQ is an organization of girl athletes who meet together to share their common bond in Jesus Christ. The girls have been very active this year as they have participated in many activities such as the national conference in Ft. Collins over the summer. Five girls attended the week long conference and saw athletes from all over the country to share their experiences. Since then, the girls have attended a prayer breakfast in Boulder, a mini conference at Pomona, and weekly meetings in different individuals' homes. They also raised money by raking lea ves for people in the community and by ee I sponsoring a beneht volleyball game against FCA celebrities. Sponsor: Robert Hicks
