He competently led the student body through a successful year. Many enjoyable assemblies were organized by Vice-President jerry Whyte. Student Body Secretary, Elaine Lopez, did an excellent job of taking minutes at all council meetings and corresponded with other schools. Judy Walker, Student Body Treasurer, efficiently promoted the increased student activity ticket at the be- ginning of the school year. PHS dances arranged by Social Chairman, Diane Bryant, were tremendous successes. PHS's improved spirit can be attributed to the effective rallies planned by Rally Chairman, Shirley Adams. The sixteen STUDENT COUNCIL members, representing all phases of PHS activities, met every day to Work out plans for assemblies, dances, and other student body functions. The annual Friendship Dance, under Student Coun- cil supervision, helped old and new devils to become better acquainted. The Salk Hop was a big factor in help- ing to raise funds for the March of Dimes campaign. March was a busy month as by-laws for the rally group were added to the Constitution. The All-Sports Dance also was staged in that month. Vocations Day was enjoyed by the entire student body as they heard speakers present talks on various occupations.

To begin their program for the year the PHS Band marched at the Los Angeles County Fair. The band was very much in the limelight the first part of the year when, as a marching unit, it performed halftime stunts at the football games. From the first kick-off to the final crack of the gun ending football season, the musicians were there cheering PHS on to victory. Under Mr. Fred Gralfs direction the band played at all home basketball games. In March the Pomona Band participated in the regional festival. Upon receiving a superior rating, the Band went to Inglewood for the Southern California Band Contest. In April band members participated in the annual Spring Concert. To climax a successful year, the band played at the graduation exercises. Orchestra members also received high recommendation at the regional festival where they were awarded a rating of excellent.
