The Basketball Season 0f1936 Despite the few victories, the basketball season was more successful than it may appear. Spirited playing in every game showed that, although the poorer team, we were not beaten without a struggle. Several of the major games were lost, but, in some cases, only by very slight margins. The two games with Providence Country Day proved to be the only two victories of our basketball season. Both games were easily won and at no time in them was the team faced with any severe obstacle. St. George's seemed to have us well in hand in the first game, but was nearly overcome in the second. Leading by eight comfortable points at the half, Pomfret returned to the Hoor only to fall victim to St. George's spirited rally. Aside from two long shots made by Dye, the home team was unable to keep up with the St. George's team in the second half. Although Pomfret managed to hold the visitors down to a minimum of scoring, St. George's won by the close score of 24-19. Tabor Academy dealt with us in the same fashion as St. Georges In the first game of our scheduled season, Tabor just managed to beat us 25-23. Tabor maintained a lead' throughout the game but a six point drive in the fourth period barely fell short of victory for Pomfret. In the second game, the last of our season, Tabor showed considerable improvement by winning a 33-20 victory. At a meeting of the lettermen, Robert Saenger was chosen as Captain for the 1937 season. Saenger has played on the squad for three years and his playing ability and leadership earned him the captaincy. George Muehleck, Jr. was elected to succeed Herrick as manager of the team.

The Soccer Season of 1935 Although the soccer season of 1935 may not be called a complete success, nevertheless it was highly satisfying. The first game of the season, played with Monson Academy, resulted in a defeat for Pomfret. In spite of the splendid work of Henry Childs at fullback position, we lost 3-0. On November 20th, a hard-playing Pomfret team opposed NVoodstock Acad- emy. Except for the several breathless moments when Vkfoodstock threatened our goal, the play was almost wholly in their territory. The forward line passed to perfection, scoring three goals and narrowly missing several others. Our best display of soccer was with Nichols junior College. Behind at the half 2-O, we rallied to win 6-2. Only the work of the fullbacks and Both at goal saved Pomfret from having many goals scored on her in the first half of the game. The forward line, however, rallied strongly in the second half and within a period of three minutes as many goals were scored on the Nichols eleven. The line continued the fine work and before the game ended, had scored three more goals for a wide winning margin. Our victories were not to continue, however, for Moses Brown and St. George's defeated us in the last two games of our season. The St. George's game was played at Newport against a tricky, well-organized team, which turned every break to their credit. Childs and Captain Poillon made a stubborn defense, which St. George's found difficult to break, however their own forward play was excel- lent and before the final Whistle had blown, St. George's has amassed four points to our none. In the meeting of the lettermen, Henry Childs was chosen Captain for the season of 1936. His fine defensive work and his ability to work with the team and coaches easily won him the captaincy. Wallcer Peterson, Jr. was chosen to succeed Dye as manager.
