Stage -llamzgvr Tl lli TllANK5l1lYlNG PLAY On Wednesday evening, November 27th the Dramatic Club and the Musical Club gave their annual Thanksgiving entertainment. The play was a three act farce by R. E. and R. M. Baker, entitled, Bachelor Hall. Between the acts the audience enjoyed well chosen numbers by the Glee and Mandolin Clubs, and violin solos by F. G. Hall, '30, Many guests of the School and alumni were present and the entertainment was in every way successful. Bachelor Hall was chosen for this year's play because of its amusing plot and because its characters well fitted the abilities of the members of the club. The scene of the play is Bachelor Hall, the home of the Hon. Geoffrey Myrtle- ton, a congressman. Myrtle- ton forbids any publicity to be given The Fatal Shotf' much to the disgust of the actors, especially Polly Reynolds, who is jealous of Betty's part of heroine. Myrtleton has made a wager with Rear Admiral March that a report of the play will not appear in the papers. Finding a theatrical performance in progress, Meredith tells Jasper, the colored butler, that he is the make-up man. Case, an eccentric newspaper writer and amateur detective, follows Meredith. Jack Meredith soon finds that he is in the house of his sweetheart, Betty Vance, whose guardian will not allow her to marry a sailor. Mrs. Van Styne, a matron of dramatic aspirations, and Claire, her shy, lisping daughter, arrive. Claire has a small part in The Fatal Shot and is consequently a bit nervous in spite of her mother's encouraging words. Polly and Betty send Myrtleton on an errand for the play and in his absence the Deacons Jervis and Bassett arrive unexpectedly. They are Myrtleton's constituents from Rambletown, and Betty, realizing ter guardian's predicament if the deacons should discover a theatrical in progress in the home of their representative, makes some clever excuses for the unusual condition of the house. Myrtleton upon his return almost runs into disaster, but checks himself when he discovers the presence of the deacons. After the deacons leave the 96
