year in 1955 -Xfter getting accustomed to ugh school lite, we elected class officers Freshman class officers were Charles Swisher, president Paul Folmer vice presldent Jll Snowden, secretary and James Carpenter, treasurer These four offic rs helped us plan our freshman class party which xy as held on the practtce field The unfamillar Sen1or High School buildmg greeted ninety five of us as we entered it our soph omore ye tr in the fill of 1956 The election of the sophomore class off1cers was on the agenda of our first class meeting Elect ed were jill Snowden, pres1dent janet Carpenter, vice president and james Carpenter, secretary treasurer among the fund raising projects undertaken by the sophomores The food concesslon stand at the home basketball games also provided us with ftmds and un Reduced to eighty eight in number, we enter ed our Junior year This year we elected jerry Welker, president, Charlotte Murray vice presldent Marlene Scholl secretary and Patncia Blakeslee, treasurer, of the Class of '59 Our frrst dramatic production was ent1tled Teen Talk and was directed by Principal James A Diehl I This year we chose our class motto, colors, and flower Our motto, If you can t fmd a way, make one , old rose and s1lver were chosen as our class colors, and white rose as our class flower Many weeks of ftm and hard work were spent ln preparation for our jumor Semor Prom We trans formed the gym into a lovely Dutch garden in keeping with our theme of Dutch Polonaise Chosen to reign over the prom were Marlene Scholl queen, and W1ll1am Anderson, king Chosen to represent Pomeroy Hxgh School at Buckeye Girls State and Buckeye Boys State were janet Carpenter and jerry Welker Our long anticxpated senior year finally arrived in the fall of 1958 We elected as officers of the eighty member class of 1959 jerry Welker, pres1 dent, jan t Carpenter, vice president and Marlene Scholl secretary treasurer Our principal project for our senior year was the raising of funds for our trip to Washlngton, D C Weekly dues of LXVCIIYQF-f1V cents, th sale of Christmas cards, wrapp ng paper, several bake sales and help from the Semor Mothers Club produced considerable funds for our cla S trip Charlotte Murray vas elected I-lomeeommg Queen, and her attendants were Ann Baker, janet Carpenter Loraine Grover, and Sheila Strauss Deanna Watson reigned over the senior spon sored Valentine Dance janet C trpenter received an attractive gold p1n from the General Mills Company for achieving the highest score in he Betty Croclserlflome Maker ot Tomorrow Contest janet also won the D A R Good Cituenship Award Patricia Blakeslee scored the highest score on the Ohio Hrstory, Government and C1t1zenshxp test of all the students taking it in Meigs County Patty was awarded a tr1p to Ohio University where she took another test the top ten of Meigs County students taking the Ohio Senior Scholarship Test Placmg were Paul Folmer 2nd Bob Gloeckner, Sth james Carpenter, 6th Robert Jacobs, 7th Patrrcia Blakeslee, 8th and Wllliam Anderson, 10th jerry Welker received hon orable mention The Class of 59 is proud of its athletes in all sports Receiving football '58, and Jerry Welker, Honorable Mention S E O A L team '58 Terry Phalin received the Most Valuable Football Player of Meigs County Award for the 1958 season This award is given by the Veterans of Foreign Wars each year Vernon Harrison set a new record for individual scormg when he tallied 118 points 1n the 58 season Vernon also scored 38 po1nts in a smgle game to break the SEO record Receiving basketball honors were Paul Folmer, S E O A L Second Team Forward 58 and S E O A L First Team Forward 59 Bruce Zirkle recelved Honorable Mention S E O A L team '59 The junior Class gave us an unforgettable eve ning when they staged the Jumor Senior Prom under the theme of Oriental Gardens Our last year at Pomeroy High School xy as one of fun and triumphs Rather sadly we will leave its
