Since every business institution is a law unto itself. it is literally impossible to train pupils for a specific office job. The broad business fundamentals and practices-the elementary tools of business such as bookkeeping, typewriting. shorthand, business law. salesmanship, and business arithmetic are offered in this department. A student who has mastered these tools can soon adapt him- self to the routine of a particular office job. Then. too. there is the objective of business education for personal use. The farmer. the housewife, the merchant, or salesman will be better fitted to do his work in an efficient and businessflike way if he applies the fundamentals taught in the commercial classes. I5
